I've already posted this on the 'other board' but wondered if any of you have had any casualties to the frost last night? Last night it got down to -9 here...I'm concerned about the big banana I have in my GH as the stem's looking a bit spongy... had already removed most of the leaves but now have had to take out the rest and the baby shoots around the root stock. I've now made a fleece tent in the GH covering the banana, tree fern and a few others... Most of my tender plants are in the conservatory where we have a radiator on all the time (a low watt one) so far they seem OK... I've managed to get the GH banana through the winter OK several years running but last night's plummet in temperature might have seen it off...aw.... Are all your plant-babies OK?

Everything appeared to be back to normal at home at lunchtime CPB, but first thing this morning the poor wallfowers and forget-me-nots looked as though they had 'melted' overnight.
If it is going to be as cold as this, we could do with that oft-forecast snow as insulation.

Hi Spru your wall flower and forget me nots should lift their heads once the temps go up again. As for the snow, it is forecast for tomorrow. I wonder if we will all get some.
My Viola drooped as well but are already facing the sky again. I worry for some of the tulips ( flower buds ) but then again they are supposed to be hardy. It is a wait and see.

I've just nipped out again and had a look around. It's all quiet and doesn't seem to be getting any colder yet (still -3/-4). Around the garden I have quite a few plants in pots (supposedly frost-proof) and they are largely in sheltered positions. The local news is fueling our anxiety...talk of schools being closed and busses not running and there's not so much as a single snowflake fallen here yet!

I had a few droopy looking Pansies and Hellebores but they are so resiliant and perk back up, mother nature is wonderful
