Hello We had a curry last night. Yum! ;D While dishing out the rice [pilau is it, the yellow colour?] Sorry, I usually have plain boiled. Anyway, those little seed pods that come in it that you daren't bite into - can anyone tell me what they are and whether it would be worth trying to grow them! I have a heated conservatory if it is something tender. Thank you.

Cardamon are the pea sized green seeds. The little seeds are usually cumin seeds. Couldn't tell you if you can grow them yourself though.
The yellow colour is usually created with Turmeric....an Indian root which is ground to a powder.

Thank you gents. I had a quick google and I think it must be the Cardamom. They appear to get quite big. Well I soaked them and put them in a pot. ;D They stand absolutely no chance of germinating, seeing as they came pre cooked and then got blasted in the microwave. But I'm going to give them a chance.

I love the flavour that cardamom gives to the rice...but can't stand it if I bite into one! Let us know how you get on with the seeds. I thought that the curry spices we use are in their 'raw state' because most recipes tell you to dry roast or toast them? If this is true then you'd easily get hold of some 'uncooked' cardamom seeds from a grocers...not necessarily Tesco although they do sell them! ;D

Hi CPB Well my ones certainly won't be raw anymore. Wouldn't it be funny if they grew! Not holding my breath though! ;D
