... that is, assuming the special offers in the UK are the same as here. Just bought a mini greenhouse - 3 shelves, PVC cover - for € 17.99 which I think is about £14 - it proved very easy to assemble (didn't even have bits left over ;D) and seems pretty sturdry ... cheers ...

Oh CC - they had them in Lidl here a month or so ago for 19.99 Euro so you had a better deal - I bought one last Autumn - they were reduced in a shop to 14.99 Euro.
I asked my OH to fix it up for me for this weekend but with gales coming I think I better wait.
I am interested to see if it is any good .......

Well Rosefriend, I guess I won't know until next winter to what extent the PVC cover protects from frost (I think padding of bubblewrap and fleece will still be in order), but I am impressed with the sturdiness. As well as plants, I've put tools, bottles of nettle slurry etc. on the bottom shelf so it's well weighted down - I wouldn't be too worried about wind.
To be honest, I feel like a kid with a new toy ;D ... cheers ...

My OH has just fixed it together in the cellar (hope he gets it up the steps) and I am amazed how big it is and how sturdy it is.
I have tried to take a pic but I can only get a little bit of it - will do so when we bring it up on Saturday.
As CC says something a little heavier will have to go on the bottom though.
Certainly better than nothing - wish I still had my old glass greenhouse though.

Rosefriend, there are little hooks at the back to attach it to a wall, providing a bit of extra-wind resistance. I'd love a glass greenhouse too, but given the minute size of our garden that's not going to happen ... this is certainly a massive improvement on my vegetable crate cold frame contraption ... cheers ...

We've actually got one quite close to us ... 18miles to Aberystwyth. I've got a day off tomorrow so I can feel a little drive coming on. I bet they'll be sold out

Don't forget that if you don't have a branch of Lidl nearby, Aldi have some equally spectacular gardening bargains. So you may have an Aldi nearby instead.

It was a very sad news day yesterday for my extended gardening family and I was in a bit of a trance for the most of it. On my way home from work last night though, a wee voice in my ear reminded me of the Lidl gardening extravaganza. I came home with 15 grow bags, 2 x 10m rolls of weed fabric, a new spade, and a pair of lawn shears all for under £30. ;D At the checkout, spying my overflowing trolley, another punter said, "you're really going for it aren't you?". going back for more growbags tomorrow (if they still have them). Must admit there weren't many left in the pile after I'd finished !!!

At the risk of sounding like a Lidl spammer, just to say that they also have secateurs; I got a pair yesterday and have just tried them out. A really good weight, very comfortable to hold, and coped easily with Buddleia branches (currently reducing the size of my wall monster prior to further extermination measures, Rosefriend). They were €3.99 and are much better than the far more expensive pair I got last year ... cheers ...

Well I have just come back from Lidl - they had garden offers on last week - didn't see it - anyway there was still some stuff there and I helped myself.
I bought a couple of Obelisk's which will be ideal for my bean trials and not for the roses that my OH thinks will adorn them!!!!!!
Only the growbags - nothing left - just a big notice saying that due to certain members of a MB, in particular a Mrskp, the Uk couldn't deliver the amount that had been ordered. ;D
Oh yes and the last pair of secateurs had been taken as well - wonder who that was - I don't need secateurs to chop my buddleia down - I just look at it and if that doesn't work I get Dutchy to come for afternoon tea and have a really good stare at it - works without fail!!!!

Have to say, I was given one of the small greehouses a few years ago as a xmas present. It worked really well, but eventually the sun perished the polythene cover. I have tried making one myself, but must admit I don't expect it to last long. Still I can always use it as an extra plant holding 'thingy'.
