My amaryllis are looking lovely and leafy at the moment, but when should I let them die back for re-flowering next year?
Thanks!

Thanks anyway Jenny. I've got a feeling that they need to be dried out or even the leaves cut off about two months before Christmas, but mine are looking so lush that I don't want to do anything to them without proper information.

Someone told me a couple of years ago to keep feeding it until about August time and then leave it alone, cutting off the leaves.
I did this and nothing happened! Other than I grew a couple more leaves.
Last year I repotted mine and still nothing happened. I don't want to give up on it and would love for it to flower again so would also be interested in what to do with them!
Sorry, Plocket, if you thought that someone had posted something useful!

Anyone else started their off again? I potted mine up and started the gentle watering last week and there is already a small tip of leaf showing on one.

Ooo lovely jlo - don't forget a pic when it starts flowering, will you!!
I found my amaryllis, after quite a search, and have thrown it away. I am afraid it didn't make it....so I shall have a look around for another one, perhaps a little different from last years.

Love that one you've got JL, mouth full of a name though. Plocket you had a bute in your porch, white or cream if I recall. Shame on you Jenny ;D I hope you potted it up and it's growing for you. Are you going to replace yours RF. Not been something I'd have given house room before tbo but tastes change and I quite like them now ;D Have I left it too late to buy one

Not been something I'd have given house room before tbo but tastes change and I quite like them now ;D Have I left it too late to buy one They are still selling them in Sainsburys for over £8. I found some in LIDLs today. I paid only £2.99 for one in a box with all the bits - compost, pot and guess what a bulb! Some of the boxes contained no bulbs at all so I some one was "lifting" them before time. I have bought them several times over the years, but never managed a second flowering. I do get the leaves again but that's all.

Its growing at an alarming rate I now have a single stem that is approx 10" tall. I've moved it to a sunny window sill and can't wait for it to flower ;D

Another stem has started growing Strange though, as another bulb of the same kind that was planted a couple of weeks later has grown leaves first

Typical! The one I saw in a garden centre MILES away from us on a day out is only available from specialist suppliers where you have to buy about 50 of them!!!!!
I've only recently remembered to bring my amaryllis in so they won't be in flower for Christmas. Hopefully they will recover and bloom nicely by about Easter though!!! ;D

Mine never bloom for Christmas - in fact they usually come into flower about the end of January. If they do that this time I will miss them all, as we are away on holiday for the whole of Feb.......typical!

My Cybister is just leaves. What did I do wrong?

My Cybister is just leaves. What did I do wrong? Dunno, I specialise in plant neglect and ironic success despite it. Look what's happened to this (it has the handy hint on the label "don't feed" which is my sort of plant): four trumpets and a new 'spike' that may have some more... like I said, good value! OM.

Yours looks gorgeous Old Moley. I love the colour. Bought mine about 2 weeks ago. Planted and watered it gently. No shoots or leaves. In fact no sign of life. Have I just purchased a dud in LIDLs? PJ

You take a risk buying them in Supermarkets
Each Christmas my GF buys one and gets one free and gives one to me
Then we have a competition to see who gets the biggest and best flowers
Hers last year was just leaves; whilst mine had masses blooms ;D
