Been struggling to keep things alive in my EP since i bought it back in the spring. Everything seems to rot off despite various different methods of keeping things going.
I've tried 50/50 compost/pearlite, i've tried keeping the top off and just having bottom heat. I've tried misting every few hours but all with the same results.
So, i neglected the damn thing for a few days and found the cuttings didn't rot but they wilted. So i poured in loads of water onto the bottom (about a couple of mm deep) and let it evaporate. I didn't spray or anything but this seems to work. Every evening, i pour a few mm of water in and the cuttings look great....they just seem to need bottom heat and high humidity.
Anyone else experience problems ?....i suppose i should spray with a fungicide regularly too. Have you overcome your problems ?

I always use a fungicide initially and don't have too many problems. Do you take the lid off daily for about five minutes and wipe the sides down? The only problem I have is sometimes I think it gets too hot as my EP is not variable at all! Going to remedy that next year, but they are so much more expensive! I saw some bargains in the winter but thought I would wait until I needed it. Those £50 ones went up to ~£80. Rip off! I have the vents slightly open, even though some say they should be closed! Yes, I use a 50/50 compost and perlite mix, as well. Keith
