Anything exotic.....
from the huge leaves of Philodendron bipinatifidum and monstera deliciosa to ficus lyrata and crotons (codieum)
i adore all members of the araceae (aroid) family as well as ficus (moracae) and bromeliad (bromeliacea) family but if i had to pin it down to one or two it would be....
1) Spatiphyllum (peace lilly) which just oozes tropicalness (is that a word ?) and there are other varieties such as Spatiphyllum "sensation" which is huge.
2) Kentia palm (Howea forsteriana) also called Lord Howe island palm....again, just so exotic.
Of course there are stags horn ferns (platycerum), anthuriums, dizygotheca, rhoeo, syngoniums, agloneamas, pileas, tradescantias, columneas, aechenanthus, hibiscus, petrea, epiprenum and a seriously lot more that i just adore.
As you may gather, i love tropical plants....probably something to do with looking after our palm house for 3 years in Brighton and working for Rentokil tropical plants for 3 1/2 years.

I have an Aspidestra that was a section of a very old plant (the old lady who gave it to me could trace it back over 100 years). She potted me a bit up when she repotted it for the first time for about 30 years! That was over 25 years ago and it's still going strong...

At the risk of sounding a tad facetious, 'anything I cant kill'. I seem to be doing ok with ficus/fig and christmas cacti, oh and jasmine. So those are my three favourites. The light levels in this house are quite low and the only room in the house that will support anything is, believe it or not, north facing!

I have great success with flowers in the garden, but was always dismally poor at keeping houseplants alive. Except for cacti, I can get them to grow and flower pretty well. However , last Christmas, my cousin gave me an expensive orchid, and I thought I really must not kill it. It seemed to survive alright, so when Lidl were selling them for 4.99 I thought I could chance a couple, then a couple more, then another four, and , hey, i might try a bonsai , at 3.99. All my cacti came from that shop too. So, those are my favourites, because they must be really easy to keep alive if I can manage it. And they are so lovely, some of them even have a beautiful scent.

I have 2 favourites, 1 is a prayer plant that I was given when I got married 31 years ago and although it sometimes dies down it always comes sprouting up again it sometimes flowers too, the second one is a peace lily, I like it cos it 'tells' you when it needs watering by drooping its leaves and as soon as you water it, it pops back up again. I have many more houseplants but those are my favourites.

A cacti, Jasmin and Cheese plant all bought when my daughter was born, that was 22 year ago now and all still going strong. 2 recently bought plants miniture roses (49pence each) which I have to keep away from the OH as he will insist on watering them and he keeps killing them off whenever I buy them. I did have a nectarine in the rear porch which my sister bought for us. It produced fruit for two years then died. Unfortunately, the kittens used to use it for toilet purposes! Found out too late and lost it

My oldest friend gave me an orchid when Mum died 4 years age, I was scared of it at first but it flowers 2x a year, the flowers last for months & it only needs a drop of fertilised water every now & again. I also bought one of those large leaf begonias this year, it was tiny & the leaves are nearly black with red spots, it is growing so well in the bathroom,

I have 2 peace lillies and I love them had them for about 5/6 years. I also have a strelitza (?) which has quite a few leaves but no flower yet I make a habit of getting african violets to flower then kill them - Its a special talent that runs in the family ! and I love spider plants, but I always seem to manage to kill them somehow as well - and that IS special !! ;D

Not sure this is exactly the right spot for this...but this is my favourite houseplant at the moment! I have to admit to being absolutely rubbish with houseplants - I do try but they only tend to get any looking after if I walk past them and they look very sad! That's why I like orchids as they seem to thrive on neglect! Anyway, this was a tiny, little reduced thing last year and it cost me 49p from the rescue section in Homebase.... It has been flowering its socks off for a few weeks now!

It looks smashing Jasmine, such a bargain. Your TLC obviously worked well for it. I've tried to grow them several years ago but never really managed it. I don't have any house plants except the Alo Vera in the bathroom and they're qquite small but doing ok.

I have an aspidistra in the bathroom, another of my faves. It cost a fortune, i think each leaf works out at about £3. Well it's thriving, loves the reasonably bright conditions and the humidity as kids, wife and student seem to always be in the bath or shower !!!!

I always had loads of houseplants when we first married, think it was fashionable Lovely plant Jasmine, I've got one in the front room window which is just showing signs of buds. Not sure what is my favourite plant these days, I used to love trailing plants like the spider plant with loads of babies

That is a really cheerful sight Jasmine. I think you're right Chuckles, houseplants were quite fashionable many moons ago, along with those really big ceramic pots! I had an aspidistra, cheeseplant, rubber plant, schefflera, dracaena marginata and several spider plants - they all outgrew the house eventually! These days I try to just stick to my trio of ponytail palms (Beaucarnea recurvata), and the odd rescue I fall for, which I try and rehome asap as soon as a visitor admires something.. I did rescue a lucky bamboo for 50p several years back (not bamboo at all but dracaena sanderiana) which grows quite happily on the kitchen windowsill.
