I know it's illegal so please remove this post if needed but has anyone grown the dreaded weed....cannabis !!!!
I smoked it for a short while whilst i was doing double shifts at work in order to help me sleep but it never really done much for me....except send me to sleep !!!
But i found 5 cannabis plants in our park a few years ago. Risking arrest etc, i bought them home and put them in the conservatory.
3 Died within days but the other two grew a little but they made the whole conservatory smell very "aromatic"
I think they're annuals but grow very tall in their native tropical countries.
Glad i grew them but that's it. I didn't even have the benifit of smoking the "produce" as i'm a non smoker now but my mate said it was good.

Oooh Andy - you are naughty  but i like you ;D OH found some growing in a field up the road from us when he was cycling, couple of years back - next time he went past it had all gone! Twice I have had what looked like it appear as self-seedlings in the garden - but it was around July when I spotted it, and it could have been hemp. Only grew to about 2' 6" before the cold, wet weather did for it. Tig |

I might have grown a few a long time ago when I was young and rebellious. The whole project is a bit of a blur...strangely enough.....  I dunno if they're annuals or perennials...they didn't live very long... |

My neighbour - the one that doesn't do anything - had a plant once. He didn't know anything about it as he only goes into the garden once a year to try and mow the meadow but it lasted all the year - pretty as well.
The cold weather finished it off but I have always wondered where the seed came from unless we have secret "pot" growers in the area.

Far be it for me to sound like a party pooper but I don't really think it's a good idea to grow this stuff. Apart from the fact that it is about to be reclassified as a Class A drug again, it is very difficult to disguise the smell of it in your average GH....the police are VERY active atm trying to find home grown supplies as it is worth such a lot of money on the street as cannabis resin is apparently very hard to find nowadays. I don't smoke it and never have but I do know lots of people who do and blimey, they are sooo irritating when stoned! Marginally better than being very drunk I know but what a pain...... I don't think this thread should really be on the public forum I'm afraid.

Well each to their own as to growing it or smoking it (I haven't done either, illegal or not) but I must agree that I do like the look of the plants.......never smelt them though.

I agree these plants are very attractive to look at but they are illegal also. As one who has suffered at first hand from the 'chilling out' of those who smoke or eat these plants I would just like to say that they may seem harmless and fun but their continued and sustained use is harmful and well documented in the long term. I know this from personal experience with someone very important to me. And while the use of these plants may not necessarily lead to the use of other, far more dangerous, substances, if you don't grow them but buy from dealers then this inevitably leads to access to other drugs. I may sound really tight lipped and prudish but I'm not - there are many ways to relax and enjoy life - this is one way that does nothing for me at all and never has. |

Oh come on 4P...it was a light hearted thread about whether anyone has grown a couple of cannabis plants....i'm not talking full scale hydroponic cultivation and i'm sure this thread isn't going to lead to a world wide epidemic in cannabis use.
Considdering both alcohol and nicotine (both legal "drugs") are a million times worse than a bit of puff, no one has a pop at them...do they ?

When this thread started I googled to try and find how many forums (fora) were about talking about drugs of some description including Proboards. The figure 2210.000 came back which I would say is an exaggerated figure but still show that drugs are a big topic.
As a gardening forum I feel that it is a justifiable topic. Having said that I am prepared to move, lock or delete this thread should I be asked to.

I don't think 4P's post is offensive at all. I'm all for an interesting discusson but you have to accept that other people have different opinons Andy. Just because they don't think the same as you doesn't mean they wrong or causing offence.

Everyone knows these plants are illegal (whatever class they are) and we all know that it can be a step to worse things. This is an interesting thread! I'm not particularly offended, but I don't know if this is the right place to discuss these things. After all, this board has members of different ages and backgrounds (long may it continue!!!!), some of which may find this topic uncomfortable. Personally, while I know that cannabis use doesn't always lead to harder drugs, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a junkie who went straight to heroin. |

Threads on Gardening Boards are always helpful and informative with discussions that follow.
If I had been a member of a Gardening Board a few years ago when I inadvertently acquired a Cannabis Plant I would have known how to recognize it. But I wasn't and fortunately a Relative-(who was a Policeman) pointed this out to me--
I could have innocently been arrested for possessing and growing an illegal drug.
I didn't find this Post offensive.

This is unbelievable...inappropriate for a "family-friendly" board  I posted merely as a light hearted thread to ask if anyone had every grown a single plant...i even put it in the horticultural section because cannabis are plants. I'm not asking if anyone's growing it on a commercial basis or if anyone wants to buy any crack-cocaine on my street corner. It was not meant to inflame, annoy or offend anyone. I've had quite a few pms's lately asking if i'd go to some of the new gardening forums. The reason people are leaving....because they think this forum is just like a glorified WI meeting....and i'm beginning to think they're right. Aw how kind. Bring it on pal.....i'll pm you my address if you like and send them round |

If you had started it in a way that showed what a 'pot' plant looked like, I don't know never needed to know, it could have been an informative thread into the dangers of buying strange labelless plants from plant stands. All my plants come from proper places, so I know what I am getting. Lose the attitude though, just saying how it is.  You asked the question, did you not realise you would get a reaction!? Keith |
