Mine's now 18inches high. When am I supposed to be brave enough to cut it's head off and can I use the stem for cuttings?
I really can't seem to find any useful info on this on line!!

I usually wait till my aeonium is actively growing before I think of taking cuttings.cut of a stem and leave it to dry out for a day or two ad then plant into a free draining compost. the stem that is left behind will then start to sprout new heads. I have yet to have a cutting fail from my plant

Thank you Beanie. I assume I leave a couple of inches to resprout and a couple under the head so, can I chop up the other 12 inches from in between and strike those too?

I usually make the cuttings about 3" long, I've never thought about trying the bare stem that's left over, but I probably will try now that you've mentioned it. there's nothing to lose. the plants are very popular with my friends because they are so dark

OK, let's trial the chopping and see how we go!!! ;D
I have mine sticking out of the top of a strawberry planter with other droopy suculants in the other holes. It looks quite nice. (You can just see it on the very, very left in my courtyard photo.)

I love Aeoniums especially the really dark ones. I've given up trying to get them going. My friend just chops the stems into lengths, sticks them in a pot and they go mine just shrivel and die. Some folk really do have green fingers I reckon I've seen them growing down country lanes to huge proportions in Portugal.

I just done it!!!! I've chopped it's head off and cut the stem up into 2 inch pieces. They're all in gritting compost now.

already having the black variety I fancied the green type for contrast, but they were £5 for a single stemmed plant, O.H thought i as mad when I cut the top of for a cutting, however both are now showing new growth.
