The "common" orange one is in full flower along the hedgerows just now and it looks wonderful, we treat it like a weed in these parts

JL That is probably why my garden is full of them. Bought the house in July last year and don't remember the orange crocosmia. But this year, boy, our garden is full of them. Fortunately they are growing nextg to my yellow sunblest rose and st John's Wort (can't remember the latin name) so it doesn'/t look too bad. I don't like getting rid of plants but I am tempted to pull some of them up, as theyt do take over. PJ

Lovely photos - all of them. I gave up on Dahlia's years ago for the simple reason I got fed up of taking them out in Autumn but seeing some of the lovely pics in the gallery, I am tempted to buy one or two again.

Hi jlottie, when I bought them, years ago now. they were called Bulbinella hookeri, but they have had a name change I believe. Though I have just looked up the Chiltern seeds catalogue, and they are still listed as bulbinella. I used to grow them beside a clump of black Iris chrysographes, Unfotunately I lifted them all to move them when I had an extension built. I potted everything up temporarily. Earlier in the year, I gave my neighbour some pots of plants, and by mistake I gave her the Iris, one of my favourites. She was so delighted when they flowered, I didn't have the heart to ask for them back. At least I can see them when I walk By her house.

Ah and my pale yellow sunflower called Italian white. Must be a disappointment when you expect to get a white sunflower. I would advise this small one to all however. It is lovely.

That looks really lovely Dutchy - I haven't seen them before. I will definitely try and get some seeds if I can - just a quick question though - how big do they grow? RF

RF About a max of 2 meter, the flowers are smaller than saucers and I will send you some seeds. They are ripening now so with some luck I get plenty.

I'm not sure if it is a Pulmonaria or just dodgy photography , although I do have Pulmonaria in the garden from the previous owner (one of the few things which are left!!) I think the flower is Calendula (Marigold), very ordinary.
