The first photo? That's a toad lily: Tricyrtis formosana (perennial). I struggle to grow it because the slugs LOVE it, and it's right next to my meconopsis, which is also a mollusc magnet!!! ;D

The red shiny one? That's schizostylis coccinia (the very un-pc name is Kaffir Lily) - it spreads quite a bit so I pull quite a bit up each year, but always keep some as they are so bright and cheerful.

Plocket, now you have only yourself to blame ;D! What aspect does it like? Could it be grown to twine through a shrub? I'm getting visions of a purple hollyhock malva with this little beauty twining through it ... cheers ...

Beautiful pictures of even more beautiful plants! We have Tricyrtis formosana self seeding and becoming little invasive weedy things here. May I send you some of our garden toads to control your slugs and maybe our slugs would have better control of ~their~ lilies? LOL!
~~SIGH~~ Wish our dog, Daisy wouldn't run through the patch of cyclamen we have under the magnolia tree.

To be honest I don't know much about it and I haven't even had it a year yet - it doesn't cling much hence me growing it in a hanging basket so I'm not sure it would work with a shrub. It's quite a small clematis too - mine's about a ft long at the moment. If you are prepared to wait until next year I'm going to try layering it then, and if it's successful you can have a baby. Hia ChickaDDD - ooooh yes please I'd love a toad. Be careful packing him though!!! ;D Naughty doggy but aren't cyclamen lovely? Mum and dad have masses under some of their trees, and luckily no dog!!! I might have to dig a little clump up tomorrow

Hi Plocket! Lovely pics. My toadlilies are flowering too! My slugs only eat them when they are small. I'm very interested by the one next to the yellow clem, red with yellow heart. Lovely.
Thanks for the pics

Hia PA! But as they are perennial they have to start off small and mine rarely get beyond that!!! Toadlilies I mean!
Do you mean the auricula or the pelargonium? If it's the pelargonium (shredded red petals and varigated leaves?) I've done cuttings so could send you one if they take!! I couldn't tell you what sort of auricula it is though.

Hi Plocket, it was I !
I meant the auricula, I thought it was a primrose, but I thought they only flower in spring.
Beautiful!
Thanks Anneliesje

Just a thought about the beautiful yellow clem- if it has a trailing habit and the shrub you wnat to grow it through is fairly mature, you might be able to conceal a big pot somewhere in the shrub so that the clem can grow through it from that and have a bit of height off the ground.
