It's hard to believe that before the August rains, these two lawns at the front of my house were absolutely brown & burnt. Although they haven't completely recovered, they are looking much better. Summer bedding plants, baskets, & container plants are starting to look past their best now. Ah well! Roll on next year!

Nice garden Dave, a lot of pride in that and your lawn has came on perfectly, did you have a hosepipe ban in your area.

Thanks CB
No hospipe ban here, although I wouldn't use one on grass as a matter of principle.

As you probably know I'm mainly interested in growing fruit n veg; I'm not too good with flowers but like to see the place looking neat and tidy. The grass is picking up nicely now.

The little tree is Salix integra 'Hakuro Nishiki'. that sounds about right. mine's in a pot so i'm going to check it's roots and see if anything strange is going on. As you probably know I'm mainly interested in growing fruit n veg; I'm not too good with flowers but like to see the place looking neat and tidy. The grass is picking up nicely now. I like neat ! and yours is very pretty. my only bit of lawn is a right pain to cut as it's on a bit of a steep slope. i'm rather fancying carrots in the front garden with some orange poppies thrown in ;D

What a lovely neat front garden you have David, and so much space. The grass looks lovely and I can imagine what it looked like before!!! Like you I don't water the grass and ours is looking pretty good now too, but no where near as good as yours.
Which reminds me, what's the best way of filling in little pits in grass. I found a lovely little dent in the grass the other day and wondered whether just to fill it with soil, or soil and sand - or what? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi Plocket!
I usually repair such dips by cutting a square of turf around them with a 'half moon', then carefully lift the grass. Add a little soil (not compost) to make it level, before finally replacing the turf & whacking it with a spade.

Gosh that sounds very professional David - I'll give it a try. I particularly like the idea of whacking it with a spade!!!!! Thank you! Px
