Nottingham cathedral looks so much smaller than I imagined it!! It isn't much bigger than an ordinary parish church really. But then the Catholic population in the mid 19th century must have been relatively small so it would have been adequate I suppose

I always imagine Nottingham to be a fairly big place, what with it's history - the fair etc.

Nottingham is a fairly sizeable city (I can't give you any figures I am afraid). But of course Catholicism was fairly low key in the first half of the 19th century and funds were limited. The cathedral was completed in 1844. Here is some more information if you are interested www.stbarnabasnottingham.org.uk/pugin.html

Wow Aprilaydee. The latter one being where you moved to? ;D The view I have got is less noble but still very nice And this one of the cows on the next field Oh and my house, We live in the right hand half. The house is 11 years old now. Our castle still needs some turrets but we are waiting for that lottery ticket to come true. Dutchy

Ah Dutchy, where I've moved to is rented so it's the landlord's light. It still works though. Lots of work to be done in the garden anyway, the house hasn't been lived in for the 6 months prior to us moving in so the garden has been left to its own devices for too long.
Good job I didn't take a photo of the veggie patch....

Hillington industrial estate with the Campsies in the background Glasgow Airport is out there somewhere I wish I had his view, but I can go look whenever I want ;D

well, LL, this is where oldmoley spends much of his time... a one-time Victorian showpiece garden - now 7 acres gone to wilderness, but retrievable, in parts, with a lot of patience...

Oh OM what a fantastic place to live. There was a thread on the beeb a while back about what would be our ideal garden, and yours fits the descriptionl for quite a few of us. All I would need to add is a gothic ruin and I would be in my element. Thank you so much for posting the photo.

I live in the county town of East Sussex, Lewes. We're about 10 miles north west of Brighton and sit right on the river ouse. Famed for its history, bonfire night and Harvey's brewery, Lewes is a reletively small town with a population of around 15,000. A walk around the town will see many very old buildings dating back to the 15th century, a castle, priory ruins and some fantastic churches. But Lewes is famed for one thing.....it's bonfire celebrations. On Nov 5th (this year it'll be the 4th), the town is invaded by up to 50,000 people who come to watch a spectacle of torch lit processions, amaizing fancy dress and superb fireworks displays. I'm lucky enough to live overlooking the flood plains (Lewes was very badly flooded in 2000) and the river ouse. Apart from a very small single storey school, there is nothing but countryside when i look out of my back garden. The photo below shows north Sussex taken from the top of our estate. If anyone's interested, here's a website which gives details about the bonfire plus other world wide events such as the international "pea throwing championships". www.lewesonline.com/index.phpAndy

you are all making me feel very inadequate!!! I don't have a digital camera or a phone which takes pictures (dinosaur!!) I live in manchester (suburbs) and only about 15 mins drive from moorland. My son lives in leicester (like cherrypeabrain in a 3 bed semi). he only moved in a couple of weeks ago , but the man who had lived there was a agrdener, so off to a good start. keep the pictures coming..........you never know, I might just invest..

hehe Andy, I like the sound of the pea throwing championships.
Where abouts in Manchester do you live magrich? I grew up in Altrincham and my sister lives in Northenden. I was lucky where I lived cos I was near the River Bollin and only a short drive from other peaceful areas and places like Dunham Massey.
We're having a housewarming/bonfire night party here on 4th November. I shall be watching the fireworks from the conservatory because I'm a wimp and I don't like loud noises :-D

This is te view fromj the top of our garden in one direction. Our Town is an old town famous for fishing tackle and springs, but sadly most of the original manufacturers have long gone, their factories turned into flats or demolished. CJ
