Barrow-in-Furness The best think round here is IMO Furness Abbey We have become the one of the finest submarine builders in the world, some say world leaders after having been doing it for over 100 yrs. The dev dock hall - DDH, where the subs are now built, looking from Walney Island with Jubilee bridge in the foreground But we do have some nice beaches up here, esp at Bardsea, around 10 min drive down the coast road www.southlakeland.gov.uk/images/Bardsea%20Country%20Park.jpgThis one is looking down from Birkrigg common, and the stone circle, which is quite unique as it consists of three concentric circles, which, so I have been told, is very rare. www.visitcumbria.com/churches/bardsea-druidscircle2.jpgIt is one hell of a view from there, across the bay to fleetwood, morcambe, also being able to look over to the lakes also. Thats my world, Hope you have enjoyed it all ;D

Oh what beautiful places. That abbey is wonderful too. Here's a link to some of the interesting sights of Stafford - the county town of Staffordshire. www.staffordtown.co.uk/galler2.htmlSlightly further afield there's the Shugborough Estate and Cannock Chase. www.cannock-chase.co.uk/I'll leave it there so other locals can add their bit!

Hay plocket, stafford must be a very intresting place to live, the furness area never really grew until the 1800's so even tho it has the abbey, it dosent have a great deal of history to it. But springtime at the abbey is one of my favourite places on earth We sit on the edge of the lake district, and that is Wordsworth country after all. ;D

Yep Stafford has a very long history which I really should delve into a little more. I'm originally from Kent which as you probably know is the Garden of England, but I'm really warming to Staffordshire and there's little I miss from where I grew up.
David those photos are beautiful - thank you for posting them (I had a feeling you'd have some nice ones to share!).

Wow Bath looks beautiful Captain Cabbage. The pub also reminds me of my grandparents old house which used to be a pub (in Norfolk I think it was!).
Edit: their house was in North Suffolk - sorry!

Will sort some local pics out when I have a bit of time I live 4 miles out of Melton Mowbray which is world-famous for its Stilton cheese and for pork pies. It is also the traditional home of English fox-hunting. www.melton.co.uk/

Awww!! BB! You didn't say and near to Barnsdale, home of the late Geoff Hamilton! Sorry David, I loved GH too he was a wonderful gardener, the best in my opinion. A great loss to the gardening world. I did think about him but thought I would keep it to the things MM is most famous for.

Mmmmmm my tastebuds are tingling now! Actually I do a lovely salad with bacon, roasted squash, tomatoes and spinach (and other stuff I can't remember!) - I usually use parmesan but come to think of it some stilton would set it off nicely.
Why on earth would you put pork pie on toast when you already have the pastry? And tomato sauce on it? Nope you've not sold that idea to me yet!!! ;D

Nope you've not sold that idea to me yet!!! ;D Hot buttered toast, pie in your hand and dip it into the tomato sauce. It's the only thing I have tom sauce with Mmmm. It's a tradition in our house on xmas morning to have this but with the addition of a slice of home cooked ham/gammon that has been roasted in the oven and a bit of stilton.

fantastic thread, and a lovely house toonia. really stunning.
i keep meaning to go out and get some local pics done, or at least the views that i've got if i stand on tip toe.
i very rarely go into central glasgow at all, far too busy whenever i'm in there. the OH commutes into town every day, i just couldn't do that now. i like me peace in the suburbs.
will try and take pics tomorrow.

Id love to have a plot of land in the middle of nowhere all you have for company are the animals and birds. no woods as you dint know who would be lurking about, well we can all dream , but who knows one day maybe.

I've visited some of my local websites and they're pretty useless to be honest (thought I could nab a few decent local pictures off them). I'll try and take some pics around the town over the weekend and post them as soon as poss.
It'll give me an excuse to get the camera out again, if nothing else !

oooh FA...'Seasons of Mist...' we did that poem (Keats isn't it?) for English Lit O' level...do you remember 4P? (that and 'Ode to a Grecian Urn'...aaaauurgh)
I live in Leicester not far from the city centre in a 3 bedroomed semi and I don't have lovely views (apart from MY GARDEN of course)...so I won't bore you with photos of us 'ouse...I am v fond of the city and where we live is handy for work for both OH and myself, on a bus route and near enough (i.e. not TOO near) to the rest of the family...the countryside not too far from us is wonderful (Melton Mowbray is just down the road...) and we have some amazing historical sites and lovely parks in the area....
I dream of living somewhere more rural, but unless we win the lottery it's unlikely that we'll move. BUT it's ours and we're reasonably content. ;D

Lovely pictures JLottie! Oh I do love modern windmills - I don't care what people say about them looking ugly - I think they are elegant and let's face it they are using nature to produce electricity - gotta be better than looking at a power station!
Hia ChickaDDD - yours is a lovely picture too. I guess it gets pretty cold with you but it sure looks great!

I think that they are amazing and pass them every day on my way to work, but I think that I would prefer C3D's view but not so much of the white stuff.

The pictures on here are truly amazing. I've really enjoyed looking at them.
I live in a small town that is surrounded by beautiful scenery but being 'local' I'm guilty of taking it for granted. Sadly the real world is catching up with rural Wales. The past 3 weeks has seen 2 people attacked with a broken bottle. A mini riot. And the local rugby/ social club gutted by an arson attack.
As someone once said - "The times they are a changing"

What an interesting thread. Well I'm a bit limited at work as regards photo editing options, but here's a photo of St. Botolph's Parish Church, in Boston. Which at 272ft high is reputedly the tallest parish church tower in England. The church tower is colloquially known as Boston Stump. Will try to sort some more local photos out at home when I get around to it!
