Hi there Rosefriend. Long time no "see". But yes, I'm still alive and well and "eating bread" as they say in Botswana in their greetings. Lovely pics of the wolves, and I agree with all that is said about the idea of reintroducing wolves into areas near to human settlements. I saw a TV show about that a couple years ago, I think it was about reintroducing them in areas in Austria or Switzerland; can't remember for sure which one. I'm afraid though that I am one of those who have mixed feelings about the idea. I love wildlife, but I'm definitely not keen on having a wolf hanging around my house, or on meeting one face to "face" while strolling ina a nearby park/woods. At the same time I don't like the idea of killing them because we see them as a threat to humans or our livestock/livelihood. Is there a happy compromise/middle ground that is good for both humans and wildlife like wolves or bears, etc? Anyway, I hope you've been well and I'll pop you a PM sometime soon. Cheers.

Hi TT torontotrini - good to see you again - as you say, long time no see!! Hope that life is treating you kindly. How's your wonderful garden these days?? Not sure on the Wolf situation to be honest - there seems to be an old female wolf that is ripping sheep/young cattle and then the young male that just seems to want to become friends with anyone it meets on it's travels - the feelings are mixed and range from "kill him/all" to "save him/them"... I only know that since the decision was made to catch the young male, collar it, take to a safe haven to see how it ticks, it seems to have disappeared...whether over eager hunters have finished it off and have enjoyed a "wolf-pie" or whether it has just decided to go back into the forest, nobody knows. Keep in touch TT - it's good to hear from you.

Great shot Chuckles. Last year I had about a dozen babies coming to the bird table as soon as they were able to fly, I could'nt feed them enough! They went through about 6 or 8 fat balls every day!!!!! But I do love them. wink

I know that a lot of birds are still making their nests so I've left some smallish twigs and bits of things around where the birds feed here at home just in case there's anything they can use. Twice now I've seen one of the Starlings flying off with some in it's mouth.

Rosefriend, those Wolves are simply stunning.
Do they pose much of a threat to humans ? I guess they might if they have to protect young or are very hungry but can't help feeling a lot of folklore gave them a bad name.....not that i'd want to find out !!!!

I found this little fella in a pot yesterday when I was doing some watering. A little Shield Bug. They do look quite elegant somehow don't they LG - never get bitten /stung by one though - I still have a scar when one got me - the blisters from the acid that they have were awful... Did you hear anymore about the wolf Rosefriend, I have only just seen this its amazing to know you have wolves near by. Rosefriend, those Wolves are simply stunning. One has been reported killed trying to cross the Autobahn - it was a female that was ripping the sheep and the young male seems just to have been nosy but I think it will mean him being shot eventually....unless they can catch him - he is crafty though...incredibly intelligent animals. I do hope someone doesn't get trigger happy! Not sure how I would feel being face to face with one - suppose one is OK but a pack?? Mmmh - difficult one isn't it...

Thank you for the nom Rosefriend,. It all ended up being a bit fraught in the end. The poor little thing ended up trying to hang on to the top of one of my plastic growhouses for dear life while being blown about by the strong wind. It then ended up on the ground in the garden at which point we had to swiftly retrieve the cat before she spotted it. Happy to say that all ended well.

Glad to hear there was a good ending Bagpuss. It's always worrying when a little fledgling is around. I remember Jenny last year spent a couple of hours protecting one before it flew off.

Its doesn't look happy does it We've had a young robin about following one of its parents, already got its red breast. Also had a hedge sparrow nesting in one of the shrubs, it had 2 young at the beginning of the week in there but today after not seeing it go to the nest I had an inspect ruddy cat has been and tipped the nest

Thank you very much for the noms ladies. Chuckles, that's not good news. I always feel really awful when I know something like that has happened. Luckily Charlie spends most of her time indoors these days. A couple of years ago now we had a blackbird nest twice. My nerves almost couldn't take it the first time let alone the second, trying to keep count of the number of days since we thought the eggs had hatched until they were due to fledge, so that we kept her in.

The cats that visit ours are neighbouring farm cats, bit on the wild side. Its catch 22 as I tolerate them for the fact they mouse and rat hunt but I do shoo them off by knocking on the window if they come down near the house and bird feeders, unfortunately I can't see the bulk of garden from the house so they have a free run there if they want. We have had a sparrow hawk visiting recently, knowt we can do about that though.
