What a delight to see your little friend Rosefriend. A couple of times this week, I've seen one of the Great Tit's come with a young one to the sunflower heart feeder. He/she pops in while the young one waits on some wood I've staged around for them to land on, and brings out a sunflower heart so the young one can start feeding. Funnily enough after the young one is finished with the 1st seed, he/she then pops in and starts feeding from the feeder. Very sweet.

Thanks for the nom Ladygardener, - ever since out neighbour died and all the trees were taken down we have had very few visits from the red squirrels and far less birds as well, and when we were shopping OH saw some peanuts being sold off - bit late from Xmas I would have thought - anyway we bought some and along he/she came... I do enjoy just sitting quietly and seeing the bird antics...the starlings are now back and the blackbirds are not liking it at all!! I had to get the shot through the lounge window - good job OH had just cleaned them!!

I had tree bees in one of my nesting boxes in the back garden last year and had noticed a bit of activity again a few weeks ago. Stepped outside this evening and noticed a really loud buzzing sound, looked up at the nesting box, and was greeted with this sight! I've not had this happen before. I don't know if it has anything to do with today's weather or not. I have reported the sighting to BWARS.

This person has asked for anyone who has them to get in touch. www.dalswildlifesite.com/treebees.htm

Finally catching up....lovely sight bagpuss, - was it Tig that had some last year..?? There was a programme here recently and there seemed to be a lot of furrowed brows about the bee world - all is not well in many areas of Europe!!

I miss our starlings in winter Ladygardener,....although it is a sure sign of Spring when we see them in the garden again... It looks as though our problem wolf may be back... not far from us. 9 sheep have been killed and 5 injured and the problem now is that it got over an electric fence which was higher and had a stronger force than normal... If this is the same wolf it had killed a total of 100 animals already...I don't think his chances are very good if the DNA comes back as being his...

isabella, I have a little Robin who has visited me for years as well. He/she loves the mealyworms I put out but feeds off the sunflower hearts I have in the container at the bottom of the garden too. That spider looks like it has a bee all wrapped up in there.

Very well caught owdboggy. I don't get anything quite so colourful in my garden although the Goldfinches are great.

Think this is a Fieldfare. There were three of them in the Birch tree this morning. Very early if it is one. Not the best image, but they were a long way off and I took the shot through the window.

I think it would be very early - hope they don't know too much more than we do - we don't need a winter with snow up to our knees.... Love your Robin OB...

There is a small songbird called a white throated chat which nests on the ground in the UK. An incredible 96% of it's chicks are taken by predatory birds such as crows and magpies, so it's hardly surprising that it is endangered. You know the small cages that some bird feeders come equipped with to keep squirrels and pigeons off the food? Scientists have carried out an experiment by providing nesting sites for the birds and protecting them with similar cages. Only 14% of the chicks in these protected nests were lost to predators.

well, last mights storm cleared the last of the leaves from our Acer tree, and finally i could see one of the Goldfinch nests in the topmost branches (two more nest were blown ouf of the tree during the storm, as they were found under the tree this morning) although i knew they were nesting in the acer, the nests were invisible while the leaves remained on the tree ! we have had them returning to the same tree now for around 4 years, and in the spring they always seem to dismantle the previous years nest before building a new one !
