Those are the more innocent ones though.
The first true winter migratory birds are arriving.... yikes.

This little guy kept me company the other day at the allotment. I keep the end bits of a nutty cereal I eat and bring them with me for him, he loves them. A little Dunnock was flitting round the plot as well, maybe next time I'll get a pic.

Sweet aren't they even though they are little aggressive fighters. I have several at the plot and they are such fun when you do the compost bin. They almost push me aside. And fight each other over the territorial right to worms.

Yes I know what you mean Dutchy, I love having them around 'tho. I have one who visits my garden here at home too, he loves the mealyworms I put out daily for him.

But it's worth it Dutchy. He arrives every morning before dawn breaks, I can often see him with the light from the streetlamps.

I was looking for flowers and fortunately had the camera in my pocket when it started flitting about, just lucky it landed right in front of me. As I've been gardening down that bottom bit this aft if has followed me round and flown down to check the soil every time I walked away. Wasn't phased by me at all, but the cat wasn't about, otherwise it would probably have been more cautious! Thanks for the noms

I have discovered that a female blackbird has decided to start building a nest on my garden fence amongst my jasmine beesianum!

I am always pleased when the local birds decide to nest in the garden - apart from the pigeons!! However I found a trick and that is to spray WD40 where they want to nest - they don't like the smell apparently...trouble is the other birds don't either!! Do try and get a couple of pics of the babies when they arrive bagpuss, - it would be lovely to keep up with them..

I post on 4th January last year, the long tailed tits were back this morning all swivelling on the acer branches, along with a bluetit - hard to get a decent photo as they flit about so quickly.

Well done Tig, they're beautiful are'nt they. Will you do the RSPB birdwatch in a few weeks time? I've been taking part in the Irish Garden Bird Survey. It runs from the 30th November until 28th feb. it's similar to the RSPB one but much longer obviously and results are recorded weekly. As well as recording the highest number of birds at a time, it asks details about what types of feeders and food you leave out for the birds as well as a little bit about your garden.
