I am always amazed in Autumn when the leaves are down to see just where birds have actually nested fungiphile,...it is incredible sometimes the places that they find...

well, last mights storm cleared the last of the leaves from our Acer tree, and finally i could see one of the Goldfinch nests in the topmost branches (two more nest were blown ouf of the tree during the storm, as they were found under the tree this morning) although i knew they were nesting in the acer, the nests were invisible while the leaves remained on the tree ! we have had them returning to the same tree now for around 4 years, and in the spring they always seem to dismantle the previous years nest before building a new one ! fungiphile how lovely to have a Goldfinch nest in your garden. I have little families of them who visit several times a day and they're a real joy to watch.

Ladygardener, ours seem to have dissapeared from the garden, although we still have the bird feeders full of their favourite niger seed, they are still awol maybe with the onset of the winter weather they may return for a quick top up on the niger seed

Some of the families who visited here during the warmer weather have stopped calling fungiphile but we still have the ones I think of as the regulars. Hopefully yours will come back too. My lot eat sunflower hearts from a feeder that I've positioned so that only small birds can get to it. They perch on the Teasel I'm growing beside it and they make me smile every day.

Soda bread reminds me of my Mummy Barbara, she used to make it a couple of times a week, lucky birds. Every year since 2009 a little Thrush comes to visit my garden, normally at the end of November and sometimes into December. This morning he paid his 1st visit of the year, he only stays a couple of months but he's a joy to see. I put out extra suet pellets and mealy worms and will try to get a pic at some stage if I can. I'm delighted to see him.

They have been regular visitors this year, but getting a photo of them is a challenge, they fly off as soon as they spot movement! Goldfinches

It's a bit blurry, I could only try through the windows as they flew off the minute I went outside, and I had to sneak into position behind the curtains! Like being on a secret mission

I only spot them on the feeders in my Mum's garden. They don't even hang around when they visit those!

I posted before about our wolves and the problem with one in particular - Kurti !! In an effort to track/monitor him and try and get him away from people he was given a collar... It didn't work - Kurti was shot at the weekend after he followed a woman with a baby and bit another dog, yet again. Lot of people are up in arms here but what seems to have happened is that some stupid buggas have fed him through the last couple of years and of course trained him that he can get food from people... Once again we people are responsible for an animals death....don't suppose some will ever learn - sad though !!

It is sad, but I do think some wild animals should be left to be wild and not encouraged into urban areas. Their instincts are not human, but humans want to turn them into domesticated pets.

The rest of the Wolf packs are rarely seen - they are still wild and very wary of humans, as it should be...such a shame. Problem of course also is that these wolves mate with dogs and the wolf dogs can be very dangerous animals...
