I always make OH leave his mucky work boots outside under the porch. Look what had settled in one this morning.....Mr Toad. Remember him? Toady-in-the-Hole?? Last night, about 11pm, he ( or a friend of his) was scrabbling at my front door, to get out!!! He was inside!!! Front door had been open most of the day. Or maybe the cat brought him in, though I believe they don't touch them because they exude something nasty tasting. ( he certainly exuded something nasty on my hands when I picked him up!! ) No idea where he had been hiding, or for how long ( 3 hours at least) Suddenly he was just there at the door!! Bless!

Oh dear, poor little thing (him, not you NO ;D). I was woken up one night by the sound of screeching. Frightened me to death, as it was definitely coming from inside the house and it wasn't me that was making all the racket. So, as you have to, I got up and went downstairs. To find one of the cats with her nose pushed behind the dresser in the dining room. Pulled her away, to see a huge frog, which when it saw me screeched again (dont normally have that effect!). Managed to extricate it, not without a little difficulty, and put in the pond, to calm down. The sound was absolutely amazing, will never forget it.

Nightowl how brave of you to pick him up. I couldnt. And the screeching is amazing, I never knew they made such a row. i hear them frequently when the dog finds one and torments it, she is naughty. Poor things but I still couldnt bring myself to touch one. Spiders I can pick up. CJ

Oooh Shrub, you don't imagine them making that sort of noise do you? Was he ok after? Did you see him again? Or have you got lots of frogs and couldn't tell? It's all very strange. I have a small ( about 3") frog living in my garden at the mo, plus at least one toad. Used to have a really big frog that laid sterile spawn in my pond 2 years running, but I caught her and took her to a pond where she could get a mate! But none of my neighbours has a pond. I don't know how far the nearest one is, but wonder why they would leave it to come and find me?! Not that I'm complaining, except it means I have to stop using Slug Pellets, and Froggy and Toady don't seem to compensate enough!!!

Have you room for a little pond? You would have a home for them then. And it doesnt take long for them to invite their pals along. When we emptied our pond there were at least 50 of the little darlings. CJ

Toady didn't make a sound when I picked him up ( both times) but made his feelings quite clear via his bottom!!!

Maybe she just wanted to be left alone and thumped all other frogs that wanted to be in your pond. Frogs too can have a temper.

Dont know how he fared after his little encounter with my cat NO. I just prayed he'd be ok. That was two houses ago and many years. This year the heron has mostly been having the frogs from our pond for breakfasts. But not if I catch sight of him/her!
I noticed that the little refugee seemed to fill himself up with air, he was very round, and then proceeded to let it out in a very robust and high pitched shriek. Never heard toads do it though. Dont see why not as they are anatomically similar to frogs aren't they?

Spotted four bats flying round the garden tonight - couldn't get a photo - they were too quick and the light was fading! Only see one or two usually, hope they caught loads of mozzies ;D

We get a display in the evening from the den. The bats flit back and forth up and down, in and out of the trees. I am in awe as they never seem to come to grief by hitting anything. Wonderful to watch.

PJ thats not a bad photo of the fox at all, cheeky things these foxes you get in town I've seen plenty in the country side but not close enough to get a photo. Well I was just up the garden and heard a strange russling noise in the Poly, dashed down to the house for the camera. Then I causiously investigated up in the roof was a Dragonfly it was not a happy bunny I can tell you, I squated on the floor to get these photo's. Don't know who was more worried it or me It's made me dither just posting these photo's, it was at least 5" long from head to tail Thankfully I didn't have to help it escape.

Wow Chuckles, it's HUGE. No wonder you were dithering. I would have too. But aren't they fascinating? Have you ever seen the nymphs in the water. They're fearsome!

Chuckles if ever a dragonfly gets in there again just get a bamboo cane. Gently push it against its legs not to hard.It will step onto the cane and as long as you do not move to fast it will allow you to carry it out no problem. We have loads of dragonflies from fat and stumpy to whopping stall and slim. They are beatiful and it is quite a joy to see them hunt over the ditch. We call them our Flying Jaw Squad. I haven't seen an orange Lady bird in my garden yet. Nice one.
p.s. Nightowl/Shrub yes it would be a grumpy frog or toad if my spawn did nought and on top of things I got chased around by a cat. ( I'd scream at it "ye blighting stupendous furrrrball" in a very high pitch )

I was just moving some pots about near the GH Shrub and there it was, it really did stand out being golden and with having white spots too. I've never seen one before either. Thanks for the tip with the cane and the DF Dutchy, I was going to see if it would clutch on to the brissles on the yard brush to help it escape but just had to get a photo first I was worried it might attack me though, I must have looked a fool squatted on the floor ;D

We have had a blackbird pair nesting in the garden this year and they are both fairly tame. They don't fly away when we come out - they love sunbathing on my tubs as well, - didn't have the camera around the time that they both did it. RF

We have a pair of blackbirds in our garden, but they always fly away when I get my camera out!
