OM - lovely pic - I am always pleased to see a Hedgehog in our slug-infested times. The more commen picture is of them flatten on the road.
Sitting outside yesterday we heard the familiar grunts from next door and peeping through the fence saw a Mum Hedgehog and a baby - that should help us in the fight for a while at least.
Chuckles - reminds me that our ants should start flying soon - did you know that if you stand in the midst of that lot, which I inadvertently did once, you will come away covered in bites.
Sorry, my brain is a mine of totally useless information.....

;D That is so cute OM, we posted within minutes of each other so I missed it. Soooooo glad it escaped the mower We used to get a few in the garden but I haven't seen any for a few years now. They were stupid enough one time to take a short cut through the dog run, we had two Jack Russels at the time

Been having a play with the zoom and macro on my camera. Captured these pictures yesterday. Can't quite match some pictures around the gallery but I think they're quite nice FA x

I think it's a grasshopper rather than a cricket, Shrub.
The first picture of the blackbird looks much better full size on my screen. It looks much clearer than it does on here.

Oh, I thought grasshoppers were green? Are the green one's crickets then? We've had a few in the garden, round the edges where the grass gets longer.

Your camera must have an excellent shutter speed - if I took those pics on mine they would be very fuzzy! Brilliant Chuckles - thanks for sharing Tig

Great pics of the baby sparrows and the bee covered in pollen.
You must have a verfy steady hand as well as a fast shutter speed. The photos are awesome.
I am doing a photography project at the moment. I am taking photos with a Canon SLR digital camera. The project is taking photos of dance, music and drama workshops for kids in NE London. It is so much better than my own pocket digi camera. I am going to have to buy a more sophisticated camera. PJ

Thanks for the complients Tig and PJ. The shutter speed is 1/2-1/2000 sec what ever that means It is a good camera but I've no idea about half that it does. It does help if you have a steady hand though. PJ you should start a thread on your project, maybe you could give some of us a few tips Thesephoto's of a ceiling fan really amazed me, the first photo is on the normal setting and the second was set for subject in motion, it really was switched on in the second photo. NORMAL SETTINGSUBJECT IN MOTION SETTING

I can't believe the 2 photos are the same subject. It is amazing what a good camera and operator can do. I don't know anything about shutter speeds yet but hopefully over the next few weeks I will glean more info. I will consider starting a new thread, depending on how my pics turn out. PJ

Oh guilty, guilty me! Yesterday afternoon something was tickling the back of my arm, so I scratched it and, too late, felt something there. It was a beautiful bright green cricket, and I had knocked one of his back legs off, and damaged the other one. I gently laid him on a plant, and watched him drag himself away, feeling terrible. PS. Sorry, lovely froggy pics FA

Hi all,
I know this is a photo thread, so sorry for hijacking it. We've been trying to make our garden as bird-friendly as possible (berrying shrubs etc.), and last week put out a bird feeder (attached to the wall of the house, out of cat reach) and hung two fat balls on different walls; the fat balls are amongst vegetation which we thought might make the birds feel safer ... but they don't seem to have shown any interest. Any tips? ... cheers ...
