mornin' all. I seem to recall a discussion about humming bird moths a while ago...perhaps it was "over there" ... I think I saw one in my garden late yesterday afternoon. It scared the pants off me as it whizzed past me to get to the flowering shrub. It hovered for a moment and then was gone.Do any of you good folk have a link to a photo or know much about them? Where are they normally to be found? I'm in North Northants and don't remember seeing anything like it before.Any info would be gratefully received

Not sure but I think I saw one of those in our garden a week or so ago, it certainly grabbed my eye and was very much like that.... Spectacular or what!

Thank everyone...amazing photos I had a browse of one of the Sunday papers...there was a supplement that carried stories of "winners and losers" over the summer.Humming bird moths were amongst the winners.Songthrushes were, sadly on the losers list,as were our native amphibians, hedgehogs and roe deer.Food supplies for the latter were scarce and they have been struggling.I'll be making doubly sure of a continuous supply for our garden visitors. And the moth hasn't been back so far...

I saw the first of those in France and was absolutely amazed at seeing one in my garden last year. This year I saw one again. Is it to do with our summers getting warmer or is this animal a survivor in that it discovered that it can survive our winters? Dutchy

Hi Dutchy We have had the hummingbird moths for the last few years and they seem to appear just as the honeysuckle comes into flower, they seem to appear at roughly the same time each day, they also love buddleja too. This was the first one I saw this year in June, the tail is almost fish like.
