FA advises I should have posted this Thread here but it is also on the General Board The Glasswing Butterfly Lives in South America. A butterfly with transparent wings is rare and beautiful. As delicate as finely blown glass, the presence of this rare tropical gem is used by rain forest ecologists as an indication of high habitat quality and its demise alerts them of ecological change. Rivaling the refined beauty of a stained glass window, the translucent wings of the Glasswing Butterfly shimmer in the sunlight like polished panes of turquoise, orange, green, and red.

Oh wow! They are absolutely stunning. They look so delicate - even more so than the butterflies we are familar with. Have you seen them in real life Jenny?

Jenny I didn't say "should", I said that I'd probably have posted the pictures here (I just naturally identify "pictures" and "gallery" together) but it didn't really matter where they went. FA x

WOW jennywrenn
Aren't they just so delicate and fragile! Very aptly named. They look like you could hang them up for the sunlight to catch them.

Fantastic,
Reminds me I must visit tropical world again and take my new camera along.
You could catch a few and add a bit of watercolour to the wings to make them look like stained glass ;D
