This fine fellow has been seen in our garden every morning this week. We fear for its safety over the winter so someone who rescues abandoned parrots is going to try to catch it this weekend. Good luck to him

Oh dear drbill - someone somewhere must be feeling very sad at loosing their bird. My daughter mods on this site which has a lost/found board

Hopefully it will be fairly tame and not too much hassle to capture.

There is a parrot who has been living wild for the last five years in a local park, it gets fed at bird tables and has craftily avoided capture, Im sure this one which you have seen will survive, I wouldnt worry too much, it would seem that they are a lot more hardy than they first appear

We haven't seen it for a couple of days although we heard it squawking yesterday.
The rescue chap said it would be futile trying to catch it so it looks as if it has to be left to its own devices

Parrots are pretty hardy when it comes to cold and i've even seen them wading through snow before....it's the damp and cold winds that they dislike. They'll usually find a nice roost somewhere that's pretty sheltered.

Is it an African Grey? we went to the local 'Tropical bird garden' recently where they have loads of African Grey parrots donated by owners unable to cope with them. It's so strange walking past the big cage hearing lots of different owners' voices! One was declaring undying love to all and sundry in a girly voice whilst another kept telling everybody v gruffly to eff off...fab. They open up a lot of the cages during the day and huge great blue and red macaws can land on your shoulder at any time. I think most of the cages are outside... Hopefully if it's fed regularly your visitor will survive...fingers crossed.

It is an African Grey CPB. And if ou look carefully at the picture it appears to have only one leg. Doesn't seem to bother it though

One of my pupils is a farmers boy - they have had a pair of parrots (can't remember what sort but we did a web search for them) living in the woods on the farm (in frosty cold Lincs) for about 2-3 years now.

If you provide it with food, and a possible roost, it may be back,( It would be nice to know it was alright.)
...Always one for the underparrot, me......

Fingers crossed it's ok Dr Bill - maybe it's being looked after by someone else or it's been caught by the RSPB or whoever. Let us know if you get any more news.

Hope the Parrot has found a safe haven,Dr bill I'm rather fond of birds. When my children were small my O H used to breed budgies, young son , also had pet budgie (Billy) who talked his head off. One day Billy" flew the coop " so we advertised in local paper, saying that young Tom was' broken hearted. happily we got him back.
When one of O H's breeders escaped. Young Tom was heard to say "put it in the paper and tell them that Daddy's brokenhearted. Young Toms a daddy himself now,but this always makes us smile Cheers! Joan
