Hairy Boris as my friends wee girl call it! Think Santa lives in Lapland.....somewhere. Look at that! Have you actually seen the Northern Lights Ziggywigs? If so, you are SOOO lucky! I don't have many ambitions in life but that's one of them. Do you remember that film "Local Hero" - one of my all time favourites - the scene where he's standing in a phonebox describing the A. B. to his boss in America - brilliant! (ahem, sorry Susie - off topic!) 4P we seen Northern Lights quite a bit of them up here being a lot further North..... here's another pic of them over the Cromarty Firth and the rigs that are berthed there...they are truly amazing and they dance too.

And it's all designed to get me into trouble.

Ziggywigs they really are spectacular pics. I'd love to see hairy boris myself...My Daddy used to be on 'Aurora Watch' for the local astro society here in the city back in the fifties and sixties before light pollution drove all us poor amateur astronomers out into the sticks! I remember him dragging me along to the local park to watch the skies and report back to the British astronomical association!...eeeh halcyon days ;D

Do you think that might explain that perpetual 'bad egg' smell that always seems to hang in the air?

Here in Germany we get the Northern Lights as well - I would have liked to have posted on this thread , - not as Administrator Rosefriend but just as rosefriend, a woman who loves gardening.
I find the situation a little difficult actually, and a little sad that no-one can post a serious thread.
I am sorry but rosefriend the women is more than a little fed up with threads that lead to nowhere, although they have been started by intelligent people.
I will ask, just once, that Gardening threads be kept just a little more seriously orientated, - should that not be the case, I will ask as Rosefriend , my co- admins for advice and help in stopping this.
I hope that I have been understood. We do have a General Board for chatting. It is enough now.
Rosefriend

As the Aurora Borealis are now at the end of their current 11-year cycle, the next best time to view the 'Northern Lights' will be during 2012/2013. Here's a link to more pics of Northern Lights which were taken in Fortrose by a local chap with more sophisticated equipment and techniques than me! www.aurora.musicscotland.com/gallery1.htm

I was hoping to be able to see the northern lights when I went to New Hampshire on a college trip to america in 1998. I wasn't able to see them but I had the best view ever of the Milky Way and other stars I'd never seen before. It was amazing and brought me to tears thinkin how beautiful it all was.
I was stood in the mountains of new hampshire, knee deep in fresh snow, clear sky with the most amazing view of the glory of the skies.
