Morning Skarloey, I've noticed PB is really slow at times and then other times it's a quick as lightning. Frustrating I know especially when time is prescious. Like you I'd thought of using another site but couldn't be bothered to have another one on the go, also they are probabaly all the same. All I do these days is just load a couple and see if it is slow, if it is I try later

Photobucket has been a pain the last few days and I uploaded 20 photos yesterday and realised that for some reason it doesn't like being asked to upload all the pics in one go.
I reduced down to 3 pics to upload each time and it went well. Also I don't seem to have too many problems during the day, it is in the evenings that the problems start for me really.

Morning ladies. It's not just me then. I really wanted to show you all my Chelsea photos but I guess it's going to have to wait. I'll try later this afternoon. I had a smashing day though but I'll tell all later. Mind you, it's true what they say about being careful meeting people off the internet...... some of them really are quite mad!!!! ;D

Just had a look Teegee and it seems that as I have shot my pictures at 7 mega pixles, I'm not going to have enough room on this site. I've looked at other sites too and some of them, to upload quicker, you have to install something or other and I'm loath to do this before OH gets home as he knows what it's all about and I, well, dont!!!! ;D Got another 10 on the go with Photoslugget..... what was British Rails logo? ? We're getting there!!!!! ;D

Hello grumpy. ;D No you didn't. I knew what you meant. That's one of the sites I looked at too but the husband will have to sort it all out for me as I'm a bit of a bird with all this technology!!! ;D

It is always frustrating when files take a long time to upload, but there are a few general pointers to bear in mind. Firstly, however fast your download speed, even on high speed broadband, your upload speed is likely to be very much less. I have just tested the 'up to 8Mb' connection at work - speedtest link - which has returned a download speed of 6135kbps (kilobits per second), but an upload speed of just 349kbps. Actually this is a very good upload speed, but it is only around 5.5 percent of the download performance. The best upload speed I have achieved on my home 2Mb broadband has been in the order of 249kbps. In addition, the file type that you are uploading can have an enormous impact on the upload speed. For instance, an image saved in bmp (bitmap) format can have a file size as much as 5 times greater than the identical image saved in jpeg format. The next consideration is the physical size of the photo, whether it be 6" x 4", 15cm x 10cm or 640 x 480 pixels. The latter of these, i.e. 640 x 480 pixels is the ideal maximum size for displaying photos on messageboards. On GWD there is a code in place which restricts the visible image size to a maximum dimension (on any side) of 500 pixels. Any photo of larger dimensions may still be viewed - in a seperate window - by clicking anywhere on the image. So, in essence, if you intending to upload a lot of images at once, it is best to aim for jpeg images of maximum dimensions of 640 x 480 pixels. As regards Photobucket in particular, this is a very popular site, which ranks in the top 50 sites in the world for the number of hits, and is said to account for 41.4 percent of all US visits to photo websites. This in turn means that at busy times the upload speed may be reduced. As WB has said, this is a totally free service and offers a very flexible option in comparison to its competitors. Flickr, as suggested by Teegee has a monthly bandwidth allowance of just 100Mb, whilst the figure on Photobucket is 25Gb or roughly 250 times as much. Bandwidth is measured by the number of times your image is viewed. The free album allowance on Photobucket is 1Gb. I have not tried Imageshack myself but it is widely used on a number of websites, and also on MySpace. I will try to have a look at that option tonight. BTW: Skarloey, if you are trying to upload images taken at 7 mega-pixels resolution, these will definitely take a long time to upload to any site.

If you are running Windows XP and need to resize pictures for upload you can't beat Microsoft's own image resizer www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx(scroll down the page and you will find it listed on the right) Once it's installed you simply right click on one or a selection of pictures in windows explorer and click resize pictures, select the size you want, OK, and that's it - by default it creates resized copies.

Bloody hell Spru........I just wish I knew what you were on about. I am CRAP with computers, get mightily frustrated with them and have no idea what any of the jargon means. But what I think you were getting at is that basically, my pictures are too big. AOL are our IP and OH managed to just upload them with AOL pictures in about 5 seconds. I don't know if they have resized them (or indeed mind if they have) but all I wanted was to show you all our day.
I am within seconds of throwing the poxy computer out the window, OH has left the room due to me bitching and swearing, oh, and I smell of sick!! (The little fella has been ill all day. It's not helping.)
Gonna try and show my pictures now on the Chelsea thread, just not too sure how to get them from AOL pictures to here without asking OH and that may take a while............................
