Spotted this yesterday, it's a Clematis Niobe bud and mother nature seems to have gone all artistic and added the flower colour to the leaf ;D I think it looks rather good. Wondered if anyone else had any photo's of such things to share. I've seen this sort of thing happen before, mishaped flowers, fat flat stems etc, there is a name for it.

When multiples of stems are joined together it's called fasciation ..........it's very common on Forsythia! Dunno if it's the same when flowers or petals become conjoined! Maybe its siamesiatus S x

You get odd petals on clematis like that when they've been a bit cold. Purists don't like it, but I think some of the colours and patterns can be glorious

I had that fasciation on a cowslip last year. There were 4 stems side-by-side and a huge bunch of blooms at the top! It was a monster
