My personal opinion is that I dislike links, and I have always felt that not everyone actually clicks on them, - perhaps I am totally wrong.
There is nothing nicer than to see a beautiful scene or flower as soon as one opens a thread, and as far as information is concerned, if I ask for help then I find it far better to read posts expressing people's experiences and opinion's than wade through pages of google.
As I say only my opinion...............

It's good to post the actual pic, but if you have an album of about 40 odd, as mine is on the Tatton thread, you can't very well post them all at once! I took photos of most of the show gardens and more of the stands in the plant marquee. I think the posting would have taken up several pages if i had posted the photos individually!

Perhaps a further category could be added to the poll? Say up to 10 photos individual pics and more than 10 as an album link.

Me 4 ;D We'll all have differing oponions no doubt ;D I think in general terms it's so much nicer to see a selection of photos in a message than following a link that takes you to a slideshow or a massive album. I'm more inclined to look later if it is a link, if I remember Like most of us it's sometimes finding the time to look there and then. Links to albums for Shows and also in Gdn/Allotment are an exception to the rule and I always set aside some time to look at those. As far as links to other sites for info goes, they have there place I suppose but it is much nicer to have another members gardening opinion or experiences, so much better, more personal and freindly IMO. I'm not saying that links to sites don't have their place but this is a garden forum and lets be honest we are all experts with our own gardening experiences and it's nice to share I for one have learnt so much more on here than I ever could have from some of the main garden sites.

Again - my personal opinion - I say this because I am aware that my name is in Red and this has nothing whatsoever to with with admin. In a situation like this I would open a new thread in Gallery and post all the pics that I had that were good. People who find them all too much will stop half way through I suppose but there are others, myself included, that cannot be in the UK and visit shows and I love to see what people have exhibited. It is not just about new plants but it is also ideas, - colours and combinations that perhaps none of us would normally put together. RF

I prefer to see them on the thread rather than as a link, simply because I'm lazy and it's easier...... One point I would make though - I saw a post from someone yesterday who said that they access GWD via dial up. It must be an absolute nightmare to open a thread with lots of pictures on it if you don't have broadband. FA x

I think there are 49 pics in total in my Tatton album RF. This has been whittled down from 70 odd. It took about 2 hours to upload them all, photobucket is notoriously slow! I don't really have the time to upload each image individually. If I only have a few photos to show, I do post them individually, but not when there are that many, I'd never get any work done!!

Yes PG - I do see you point and I must admit that PB is terribly slow at times...
I also understand what FA is saying about people on dial-up - I don't suppose things will ever be ideal but at least we can chat about them.

Personally speaking I prefer to see the actual photo although I can also see the usefulness of a link when it is to a multi-photo album, or indeed to a very large image. From an 'official' point of view, I suppose we should be mindful of those Members still on dial-up. I can well remember what that was like, ( ) and I can certainly sympathise with anyone faced with a photo oriented thread taking ages to load. Of course this is another reason for not posting oversize photos, since smaller ones load more quickly.

oops i have to say i had entirely forgotton about the good old dial up days. oh how long you had to wait for an average sized photo to appear. it has made me stop and think for a minute ...... but i still prefer to see that pic instantly.although now i will make then as small as is appropriate. xxx
