the wild plums in the hedgerow are coming along nicely, and in great profusion this year - bullace: damson: plums: I've never been completely sold on the idea that nature somehow presages hard winters, dry summers etc, so won't attmpt to convince you of anything other than a glorious feast for the picking... Any good at wine making OM ? The hedges round here generally, not just OM's patch, have these plumtrees - you'll soon see yellow patches of fallen bullace even by the side of the mighty A47... so while I'd love to have you all here, you'd get distracted on the way. No, JL, not into home-made wine (we do eat them though) but now you mention it, I do remember my old M& D making damson wine - I might just have a go at that. However, due to overabundance of apples locally, I am getting involved in a small co-operative cider making venture this autumn... Elsewhere on GWD re apples I've mentioned the total lack of interest in 'pick your own' apples on my neighbour's farm, to the point where he grubbed out every other line of trees in anorchard he started 30/40 years ago. Even by halving production he can't sell out, so we're going to have a go at turning them into cider. If the Grundy's can do it, I'm sure we stand a chance. OM.

Oh OMS I just love a nice glass of ice cold cider after a day of hay making. It clears the throat of all that dust. Let me know when its ready. Carol.
