not exactly 'macro garden critters' as these are on the corner of a windowframe indoors... the thing is, has anyone ever seen them grouped like this before (for overwintering?) and how did they get in? that window's never opened (well, not for months) and there's two groups like that, maybe a hundred of them in total. Goodness I've never seen that many before OM, although I have seen smaller groups. As to how they got in, I've got no idea, but they look happy

OM they look more like the harlequin variety which is a problem - maybe someone else can comment? See this link www.harlequin-survey.org/

Bloody hell, I've seen loads of those round here. I never knew they were the Harlequin ones Thanks for the link Tig. I'm going to save it and report sightings when I see them. FA x

well, they're sort of milling around within their chosen world - the 'canopy' of a dormer window and pretty well stay together. I was heartened by the info that while they may eat eggs and larvae of native species, they won't actually eat adults - so there shouldn't be much munching going on - but if the more spotted ones diminish, I'll know they're being used for a sort of winter packed lunch...
Incidentally, I see Ziggywigs posted a ref to there being little point in killing them... what ever happened to ZW? She hasn't posted in ages and the blog isn't updated either...
OM.
