This is one of those rather irritating Flash games. So far I've only made it to the Borderline-Idiot level. Some people might argue that this is an accurate reading! Anyway, it would be interesting to know if there are actually any other levels. I suspect not.... users.skynet.be/bk258512/idiot_test.swf

Well done Plocket! I can see where I am going wrong now. I am being too inflexible - as usual - with my definition of a rectangle.... Rectangle : A four-sided plane figure with four right angles.

A square is a rectangle, but a rectangle isn't necessarily a square.
Like a geranium is a pelagonium, but a pelagonium isn't necessarily a geranium.

The point I was TRYING to make, is that there was only one rectangle (two shorter parallel sides and two longer parallel sides, all with equal corners) and all the others were squares (four equal length sides with equal corners).

But you would be technically incorrect Big P. Squares are rectangles. They are rectangles that are symetrical in 2 planes, but they are still rectangles.
ALL the shapes on THAT screen were rectangles. But only one was not a square.
Spruances' definition of a rectangle was correct - and all the shapes qualified.
I know where you are coming from though.

You are very welcome.
And yes, that is a view (correct, but pedantic) ;D
Look at the other case P. Supposing someone showed you 10 narcissus flowers, only one of which was a daffodil, and asked you to point to the narcissus.
You would be correct if you pointed to the daffodil. But you would also be correct if you pointed out that they are all narcissus.

Thanks Jonah.
The relevant line is "A square is a degenerate rectangle with a=b."
