Dear All,
From the very outset, we have had a problem with oversized photos, which cause the board to stretch to accommodate the larger dimensions.
We have asked members from time to time to resize such photos, and indeed we have also done this many times on members' behalf.
Following a recent visit to Proboards Support Forum, I have found a code which, when inserted via the Admin menu, allows us to control the maximum size of photos posted on GWD.
For the time being the maximum dimensions have been set at 500 x 500 pixels. Larger photos will be automatically reduced in proportion.
As this is a board-wide code, Members need do nothing. Any oversize photo that is posted from now on, and indeed all of the photos currently on the board, will automatically adopt the new maximum settings.
This will save a lot of time and worry all round and will hopefully make browsing GWD a more pleasurable experience.
NB: It may be occasionally necessary to refresh the page if images appear to be still oversized.

Thanks for that Spruance! You posted your message literally minutes after I spent ages reducing my tree photographs!!!!! It will make using the boards a lot easier in my opinion - well done! Px

So would it be better, when using Photobucket to upload for "Website, email (320 x 240)" rather than "Message board (640 x 480)"

Px If you use Photobucket Plocket you can select what size to upload from a menu, Photobucket then reduces photo's accordingly.

I've played about with this on a spare board, and essentially, it makes no difference how big the photo is to start off with. Once it is posted on the board it will be no bigger than (currently) 500 x 500.
So, unless you particularly want to resize your photos to save physical space on Photobucket, you can just post the full size photo on here and the board will resize it for you.
The only thing to be aware of is that the image is only resized when it has been posted. The code has no bearing on the preview size.

Great idea Spruance. I find photobucket very laborious at the best of times so not having to worry about photo size is a real boon IMHO. Well done!!

Thanks Rita - I learned that today too, just after adjusting all my tree photos! I've amended my Photobucket account now though so they are automatically uploaded smaller!!!

Yes indeed Rita, I had intended to use a hyperlink for the St. Tiggywinkles factsheet link, but everytime I set it up, the link wouldn't work, so I ended up putting the whole factsheet link in, when all I needed to have done was to insert the main site link for St. Tiggywinkle's, which I have now done. Problem solved. Sorry about that!

Question: Can one copy and paste an image from ones documents straight into the GWD? I remember Spru telling that you need photobucket or something similar but I wondered if one can be lazy and go around that. Dutchy

The photo has to be hosted on a web server before it can be posted on the board. Photobucket is the one that we find easiest to use, but there are other sites of course.
