I can't believe I'm actually saying this but I'm actually fed up with hearing fireworks now - and it's only early evening. Last night was like World War 3 outside, but tonight is even worse! And a group of ******* are outside setting fireworks off on the green opposite our house. It's nice to watch the fireworks, but there's only so many times you can ooooh and aaaah, especially when they are perilously close to our roof!!!

Me too Plocket! They have been going off here since it got dark, the big display kicks off in 15 mins and I can see it from the house - it is SO loud it rattles the windows. My dogs hate the noise.

My poor pussy is cowering at the top of the stairs but, the minute I walk towards her she purrs, and rolls onto her back! Think she's a bit of a drama queen

I love fireworks too but have seen, and heard soooooooo many now that I've had enough - I'm fireworked out now! My poor cat is cowering under the sofa because of the idiots setting off fireworks outside our house, and OH rang the police who can't now do anything because while he was on the phone they moved on. I really like fireworks, the look, the sound and the smell, but enough is enough. Even LP has called down a couple of times because the bangs are so dramatic - and she adores fireworks.

Hi Plocket
Nothing too serious on your "bit of a day" I hope.
I'm with you on this one. I'm a bit sick of them now. Quite why they have to keep letting them off until 11pm or later (as it was last night) is beyond me. Poor old Cherub got woken up in floods of tears several times 'cos they were so close by.

I can't muster up any enthusiasm for it at all. Ok, the children are a bit young [3 year old has hated it], but I'm just bored of it these days. Seems like everything has to get overkilled, done all year in the garden until it doesn't seem as if you need a firework night anymore. I'm looking forward to the children being a bit older and going to a big show with hot dogs [veggie for me of course] a big bonfire, fair, and a good show of sparkly things. Hope your irresponsible neighbours don't have their display going too long Plocket.

<hug> Andy, I hope Cherub gets a better nights sleep tonight.
I think you've summed it up Jonah - it's overkill. Fireworks are such fun but they have been done to death. The people on the green have long gone but I think our neighbours are attempting to break a world record - to have the longest ever fireworks display. This month anyway - they seem to set off fireworks every month!!!

Sorry everyone else isn't enjoying this evening but I've just come back from a really good evening at our local village green - huge bonfire, little fair and a brilliant firework display. The place was packed with families and teenagers all really enjoying themselves and I spent the evening collecting donations in a bucket (got lots too). It was a lovely friendly and good tempered event all run by volunteers. Brilliant. I love Bonfire Night.

I hope the donations were for a good cause and not just the "4P needs some help in the garden" fund ! Although, of course, that would be a very good cause in itself !!
Glad to hear you had a good time. It's gone remarkably quiet round here these last few minutes.
Cheers FA

BUM! I never thought of that........actually it was for the village hall fund which puts on the display every year free of charge. I don't think my fund would have made as much money do you??

I'm sick and tired of it too - been going on ever night since Friday and tonight there was three hours of it - and I live in the middle of nowhere!
I think they should be banned from sale to the public - organised displays only.

I had quite a nice Bonfire Evening - I had some friends round, I lit the fire bowl in the garden with some fire logs burning and we sat and watched, free of charge, the wonderful display the Golf Club had put on just down the road But I do hate the loud bangs - each time I hear one I feel so sorry for the animals and the wild life - how many I ask will have died of fright last night There should be a restriction on the level of sound some of the bangers make - there isnt any need to have bangers is there ?

I love fireworks but I am starting to think that the general public shouldn't be allowed to buy them. Yet again there have been tragedies reported in the news and yet again there have been irresponsible users. This morning my friend told me that the roof of her conservatory has been damaged by a firework crash landing on it, and the display next door went on until 11.30pm.
Bonfire Night seems to have little to do with our history now, but much to do with noise and trouble. And since the new firework laws have come in to effect there seem to be MORE fireworks about before and after 5th November. Why do so many people feel the need to go to such extremes, letting off fireworks whenever they feel like it with no regard to their neighbours, nature or the law?
I don't know what the solution is because banning fireworks will only mean people buy them illegally. But surely organised events is a better and safer option?
Humph!!! And I do still like fireworks!!! ;D

I'm with you all the way there Plocket.
It's been like Armageddon in our area, and my greenhouse (polycarbonate) has been damaged by a firework. Saturday night was incessant and next doors dog was really upset by it all. I had to wear earplugs to bed!!
I love fireworks, but in organised displays. It makes far more sense both in terms of safety and cost. We went to a super display on Friday at a village pub. It cost £2 per ticket and the fireworks were really good. It was all done very safely, no-one was injured, and everyone enjoyed it.
I think it's high time that only organised licensed displays are allowed with people having to be properly trained before gaining a license. There has already been one fatality this year and I dread to think how many injuries. Not to mention the effects on animals.

Well, we obviously don't have Guy Fawkes night here, but fireworks are still going off nearly a week after Hallowe'en - and I'm getting really tired of it. Thankfully, however, the new licensing regulations mean there have been no serious injuries, unlike previous years ... cheers ...
