Hi all, these threads would not be complete without 'the worst garden buy'. Mine is simple: solar lamps which cast less light than a match - not even enough to drink a glass of wine by Mind you, they look very pretty - but quite useless! ... cheers ...

Yep I've got some of those - we call them the glow-worms!!! And they are probably my worst buy too.

One of my worst buys is a compost bin which looks like a bee hive, it was quite expensive too People do think I keep bees, perhaps I should put bees in it, because as a compost bin I think it is rubbish.

Gypsophila, or Babies Breath. In trying to replicate my mums tiny front garden border I have bought and planted this so called easy plant 8 times, the soil is much the same as mums was, but this plant refuses to thrive, and after 15 years I give up!
Mum, I`m sorry your memorial is still incomplete.
If anyone knows of a plant with the same look to it, which will survive on slightly acid soil, please let me know.

Take a look at thalictrums - there are different types and I some are white. Mine grows very happily in moist slightly shady clay-ish acidic soil.

Its close, but I remember the flowers being held higher above the foliage, and having an "airy" habit, almost like puffs of smoke. Maybe I`m trying to copy a dream... Thanks for the suggestion, though, Plocket.

How about Crambe Cordifolia (Greater Sea Kale)? I've not got any, but it's on my shopping list!

I use mine to guide the hose around the garden so I don't damage my plants

Sets of terracotta or glazed pots, the medium and large ones are ok but the small one is no good for anything.
