I have recently shredded and composted 40 yards of a hawthorn hedge.
I now need advice what to do with it, should I
A. Use this as a mulch under a Hornbeam hedge
B. Mix this in with the large amount of green material which we shall be cutting down from the garden borders.

I'm no expert but I think I would go with option A and compost the green material separately

Personally I'd use it as a mulch as there's so much. Some would be beneficial to a compost heap, but not that much!

I'm not an expert either but if it was me I use it as a mulch, partly because it's nice to have a home grown one and you know what's in it and partly because it makes a nice gardening cycle which is always satisfying! I have a feeling that it wouldn't necessarily compost at the same rate as green stuff despite being shredded unless you could get your bin to heat up really well. Do you fancy coming to finish my hedge now? I've got miles left to cut and I've got to make jam now........
