Come on then folks, what are you up to this weekend ?
I've got a fence panel & post to put in place and I want to get the grass cut. There isn't a lot of weeding to do at the moment so I might have a tidy up of some of the herbacious perennials that are looking a bit ropey.
I've also got a couple of things to plant but can't do them until I get the fence panel in place because they're going in front of it. I've also got to get a trellis to go on the panel so that I can (FINALLY, Plocket !!) plant my cirrhosa freckles !!
What are you all up to ?

No gardening yet again I'm afraid! We've got the usual ballet and swimming lessons tomorrow morning, and then we are heading over to M&Ds to spend the weekend with them and my Bro with his family. He's visiting from Oz with his wife and daughter, and LP has never seen her 10-month old cousin, so she's really excited. Get that poor clem in the ground Andy - how long have you had it? ? ;D Hope you all have a good weekend!

Hoping to find time to get spring bulbs in. Maybe start to make space for another raised bed for veggies. And continue to construct paths through the cottage garden.

I know, I hang my head in shame at the thought. I've been waiting to get the fence done so that I'd have the right spot to plant it. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it !!

Well, if it stops raining long enough I hope to tidy the garden and plant out the cuttings which are big enough to go into the ground - a fuchsia, a lavendar and a solanum 'Glasnevin'. But chances are I'll be inside looking at an increasingly bog-like garden ;D ... cheers ...

IF it's not raining I have to clean out my little goat's shed. If it's raining I can't do it as he HATES the rain and he has to stand outside while I get it all out. Then I have to clear out the PT and deposit the muck in there, cut down the asparagus and muck that bed and mulch as many fruit trees as possible with the remainder. I also have quite a few bulbs to put in pots ready for tucking into the flower garden (when I get round to weeding it....) and I also have to take Ma and daughter to the visiting French market, watch the footie and go the the little funfair that's set up in the village in the evening (weather permitting). Oh dear, bet I don't do even half of it.....

As I had a day off today I had an early start to the weekend. After seeing the GP (old hernia in neck playing up, hip hurting for at least 5 yrs and not gettng any better - don't worry, I don't either), I did some shopping. I hoped to be in the garden but the rain + the cold wind + the stiff neck kept me indoors. Tomorrow sing a funeral, help my mum with the shopping and hopefully do something useful as gardening or (sorry sorry) ironing. Sunday maybe go to a concert, and then t he usual stuff, cook, iron, garden, drive, sing and wonder where the weekend has gone to? In 5 weeks I have a week off! Great isn't it!

Morning all! FA, the weather looks good - clear skies. So if the Demon child isn't worn out after bombing round Banham, turn right at Thetford, drive for 10 miles and pop in here for a cuppa. I'll hand him a (baby size) fork, put him in the goat shed and ask him to dig. He'll sleep for a week! Well, it has that affect on me.........

I've had a really productive day in the garden today. Managed to get the 2nd fence panel and the final post in place eventually - it was 2 inches too long so I had to cut it down a bit.
Then I dug over the border in front of the new fence and planted the free bamboo I got from GW magazine a while back, an Aster Latiflorus "Lady in Black" and a Salvia Uliginosa. Unfortunately, I think I made a bit of a mistake because that border gets a bit of shade and the Salvia likes full sun. I'm going to move it tomorrow so I'll need something to go in its place. Something similar ish that flowers late August onwards would be nice - any suggestions ?
I also dug out a lysmachia firecracker, trimmed up my choisya (took a couple of experimental cuttings as well), dug out a chilean glory vine (bl**dy horrible thing) and planted an evening primrose given to me by my neighbour.
Mrs FA did some weeding and general tidying up and also planted out a lovely yellow chrisanthemum she got for a bargain price from a local DIY store the other day.
Hope you've all had a good day

I also worked quite hard in the garden, although I did a lot of other things too. I mowed the lawn and weeded a few border. Deadheaded rudbeckias, cut the valerian, ate the raspberries , planted several bulbs, took out several cleomes. I feel a bit tired now ;D And Hungry Bye.............

It's a good tired feeling though, isn't it? It was a lovely day here in Norfolk so I got stuck into the goat mucking out. It was VERY hard work but it's now done and my back's not too painful.... I let my little goat out into the garden while I emptied his shed out as he doesn't stray far. The 3 nannies hate him with a passion (including his mother) so they had a fine time running up and down the fence while he watched and eventually wandered off to have a chew at an apple tree. They're just jealous! Now I have a fine mulch around the bases of 3 fruit trees, a nice big pile in the PT to spread about and a barrow load waiting to go on the asparagus bed. Smallest daughter was out with eldest daughter and her two for the afternoon, OH was at work so I sat and had a read after a quick bath. Lovely day. Another one tomorrow I hope!

Didnt get the Perrennials split, or plant my bulbs, but I did cut down a very overgrown Lavatera and cut out the dead branches from my ancient lilac tree, Tomorrow I have promised myself I`ll get to the lottie, but not before I`ve done my own garden

Well, I got the spring bulbs in. It's a bigger job than you think isn't it.
I also made some more progress in edging the paths in the cottage garden, putting down weed suppressing membrane and spreading bark chippings. It's starting to take shape I think

Poor CPB. Hope you got some sleep, sugar. Freddy is now at ground level - he was getting vertigo! He's not a rufty tufty mountain goat you know! Did you have a busy night, you seem to have been chatting to C3D in the middle of the night? Seems to be another clear sky day here - bulb planting day or shall I clear out the PT and GH? All these decisions.....

Hlo 4P. Glad Freddy is back on solid ground. I had a whole hour's doze in the on-call room! so am as sprightly and wide awake as a wide awake sprightly thing.(praps) I love this MB...but it's everso strange in the middle of the night when you realise there's just you and a 'guest' viewing!
Hoping to get some horticultural therapy this arvo, will be off home shortly and will tucked up in bed snoring by 10am hopefully.
I've not had a lot to do with bulbs (sshhh don't tell Dee) apart from a few crocus in the front lawn...however I'm thinking of trying one of those 'staggered pots' they're always going on about on GW...where you get a succession of bulbs coming into flower one after another...anyone recommend a few I could try? (got gardening centre vouchers burning a hole in me pocket!)
Hope everyone has a nice Sunday CPBxxx PS had trouble controlling my megalomania...wanted to reply to every posting..even when I didn't have anything useful to say (I know what you're thinking...never stopped her before!) luckily I was too busy.....

Yesterday the OH and I travelled to Carlisle what was our closest to home game of the season. Left at 8.45am and got back at about midnight. Another magnificant victory by the mighty Lions! Two on the bounce. Get in there ! Spent the return journey talking to a squaddie (one of your mob CB ) who had just returned from a tour of duty in Iraq. Get this, they get flown to Germany, have to take a BUS across the country, fly into Heathrow and then get a train back home to Glasgow ! Poor bloke was cream crackered. Today I am sobering up.

Well the best laid plans etc etc...didn't get in the garden at all in fact I've only just woken up! I've even missed Mr Rochester simmering at Jane's heaving bosom on the beeb !. I am off tomorrow so I shall treat Monday as my weekend...there is a small nursery a 2 mile walk away so I shall take a wander up there and have a look around. I need some sharp sand and grit anyway.... Sounds like you all had a busy time...isn't it sad pulling up all our precious cleome plants Anneliesje! My monarda's looking manky too...does it die back in the winter? it's at the back of the border in quite a sheltered spot...does it need to come to the front? You'll have to post some more photos of your garden FA, sounds like you and Mrs FA had a good productive day.

Cheer up FA! It's just the time of year - if it's any consolation I always go through a few weeks where I am sick of the sight of my garden, generally it's a total mess by October, TONS of really heavy chores to do, weeds everywhere and no time to et on with it. Usually I pootle about doing the most urgent and wait for the first hard frosts. Then it's seed catalogues and plans all winter and suddenly I'm obsessed again. Keep your pecker up angel!
