I wondered why I could'nt see the little bats returning home this morning and then I found out why. This Sparrow Hawk was sitting on the apple tree!!! I managed the pic through the glass and from where I sit at the pc. Amazing to see it, in all the time I've been living here I have only seen one once before. I just had to share with you. Amazing picture Ladygardener!

The new fence down the side of the garden is finished, he wasn't the neatest worker to say the least, I have dug out crocosmia and iris from back there so I have a new chance to plant it all up next spring with fresh plants catalogues will be pored over for the next few weeks while I decide what to plant, I love a new planting opportunity.

I just asked in the coffee shop how you got on Barbara. Is'nt it great you have a new space for planting and at least the fence is sorted before winter arrives.

I went to water my Sweet peas yesterday in the GH on the bottom plot and a little black slug has eaten nearly all of them, I'll have to re-sow next time I'm down there, I think I've got some saved seeds.

Never noticed this before but seeds must get caught in Palm tree trunks and then grow out of the host tree!

Had to pop out before it got dark to clear up some pots that had blown over while we were away. There are so many snowdrops coming out and some January Gold daffodils in bud!

Wasn't sure where to post this but one of the bird boxes fell down in Storm Dennis so I picked it up yesterday and put in it a close by pot. This morning some blue tits were checking it out. I think it's the garden that comes with the bird box that made it so desirable!

I love bellis daisies, so cheerful I bought one this morning.
The back garden is full of birds this morning, 8 maggies in the cherry tree, blue tits all over the 2 feeders and the male blackbird trying like mad to have his way with the female, spring is in the air.

Yes it is Barbara, and it won't be long before we see the birds flying with material for their nests. I've noticed a lot more Goldfinch and Great Tits coming to the sunflower heart feeder in the garden, they're hungry.

I am sitting in the study watching a mad little Blue Tit fighting with itself in the wing mirror of the car. Alan doesn't reckon it's much of a sport but I bet the little thing is so chuffed with itself!

That sounds like a wonderful thing to watch Jasmine.....I watched a couple of male blackbirds patiently waiting on the trellis for their turn to have a splash in the puddle of water that had built up on a black bag that I'd covered a pot with, the little robin took it's time having a bath....by the time I grabbed my phone to take a pic of them they had flown away 😥

It was so funny Missy!
I knew i wouldn't get a picture. He does his little fighting thing, then sits in a close by tree looking pleased with himself, goes off and does whatever blue tits do and comes back for another round!

We saw quite a few bees buzzing around in the sunshine yesterday. I can sit here in Jenny's kitchen and watch the birds coming and going to the feeders opposite the window, I could watch their antics for hours.

There was loads of buzzing on the heather this morning, it was covered in honey bees and a couple of bumbles (bottom of the pic if you can make it out)

I just read on FB that the new garden for Bridgewater is postponed until next May, they had got behind because of the spacing rules due to the virus.

That's a shame, the horticultural industry is taking hits from lots of directions isn't it? Better to be safe than sorry though and they couldn't welcome any visitors sadly.

Yes whilst in one way the industry is doing well from online sales etc... in so many others people are loosing money hand over fist. It's very sad.

I think the major online suppliers should partner up with the smaller nurseries and offer them a lifeline. They may not make as much but it could be enough to tide them over if they collaborated.
