We've had a subscription to Amateur Gardening magazine for years but we got an email saying they are finishing trading. I guess it's a sign of the times.

I've just been invaded by a swarm of ladybirds, about 30 of them in the hall, on the ceiling and the back of the door, I think I got them all out into the garden, they were trying to get back in, landing on me as I was getting rid of one lot.

Probably harlequin ladybirds, the invading species Barbara. They prefer to be in homes for the winter unlike the native species. They tend to cluster in the window frames and leave a yellow mess of ladybird poop!

They also like to congregate under an old coat one forgot to get out of the shed. Had a lovely coat shaped collection once. Never knew you could have so many. It did make me smile the rest of the day though. Better them than the home of a mouse.

Well, you learn something new every day! I'm on a David Austin site on FB (think you are too Ladygardener ) and have heard folk talking about Rosa Mary Delaney but not thought much about it although it isn't a DA name I recognise. Then this morning I hear Mary Delaney in connection with Rosa Mortimer Sackler (I have 2 of those and was always interested in the fact that it was named by a lady in honour of her husband after she won a prize in a charity auction and the prize was naming a DA rose). Anyway, Morty has been renamed Mary Delany because... ''Rosa 'Mortimer Sackler' has now been renamed Rosa 'Mary Delany' to remove its association with the Sackler family, who own Purdue Pharma, a pharmaceutical company which produces Oxycontin, an opiod. 50 states in the USA have filed lawsuits against them for their role in the opiod crisis. Mary Delany was an English artist who was known for botanical drawings and creating botanically accurate paper flowers.'' The Purdue Pharma case is an interesting read too. So, I don't have 2 Mortys anymore, I have 2 Marys! It's a beautiful rose and it is almost thornless!

I've just read that the remaining stock from Taylors Clematis has been bought by Sarah Raven and Taylors Clematis as an individual business is no more.

I've heard of that happening too maggy, you can take out the flower and it should be ok 'tho I think it weakens the plant. I must have a look at ours later.
