Thank you maggy, it's amazing how many birds flock in when the feeders are full!

Thanks Jasmine, I'll need to see the plants growing against it to see if it works, but it does brighten the whole garden up.

The squirrel is making a nest in a tree at the top of the garden, it's going to be a des res. she ? has taken lots of holly, lots of moss ? and this morning balls of cotton wool, no idea where it got those from.

My Diamond Wedding rose is coming on nicely, would you prune it now or should I leave it grow this first year ? I’m giving it special treatment as it was my present fro John

I personally wouldn't prune it this year maggy, - it is so easy to get Roses into shape...let it show you what it wants to do first, you can always persuade it to grow how you want it to next year hahahaha!!

I’m giving it special treatment as it was my present fro John It looks very healthy and settled maggy. No I would'nt prune it at all this year either, plenty of time as it gets another year under it's belt.

The birds have been having a feeding frenzy today, sparrows and tits have been coming in feeding since early this morning.

There are loads around here too Barbara, I think they're feeding their young and I'm sure there are fledglings around too.

We aren't bothered by squirrels here Barbara, they tend to stay up in the woods, but at the van Ive caught them running off with a big pansy flower in their mouths, and something digs big holes in my plant pots! our feeders are empty now but lots of birds eating something off my plants.

We don't have squirrels here either but the Rooks and the odd couple of Jackdaw who would eat the fat balls from the feeder in an hour if I let them. We're feeding a lot less but still put out sunflower hearts every day, its great to see the blue tits and sparrows flitting through the garden and most of the greenfly have now been eaten as well which is brilliant.

I've been re-filling the bird feeder on a daily basis for a couple of weeks now, the sparrows were bringing their babies for the last couple of days, yesterday afternoon was the first time they didn't all come at 4. so it looks like they have moved on now.

It's lovely to see them is'nt it Barbara. We had 4 juvies arrive with the parent Goldfinch yesterday. The 1st lot of sparrows here have flown the nest and I've spied one getting fed by an adult the other day, it was sitting in the cherry tree. I've noticed the sparrows are back and forth again to the bird boxes so I think more might be on the way.

I noticed we had blue tits in the boxes before we went to the van but haven seen any activity lately Im wondering if they fledged and went, the blackbirds are in and out of the front conifers, they was a young one in the front street when we came in this morning.

I'd been disappointed that none of the 5 Aconitum Arendsii I'd bought and the Monarda Pink Supreme did'nt show in the borders at all so I got in touch with Farmer Gracy via email yesterday morning to let them know. I had an email from them last night giving me a full refund, that's good customer service although I'd have rather had the plants.

My 2 hanging baskets I made up are drying out very very quickly and need watered almost daily. I'm thinking that over the next couple of days I'll divide them up and plant them into the beds or borders, at least that way they'll have a chance when I'm away and Jenny and family are on holidays. The big hanging basket that Jenny did up are doing great, Jenny put water holding crystals into it when she was planting up and it has made a huge difference.

That's interesting Ladygardener because I've come to the conclusion that FG bare roots are a bit hit and miss. Good they refunded you!

That's the trouble with hanging baskets and the reason I dont bother anymore Ladygardener, its alright if you are home all the time or have someone to take over the watering pots are bad enough for me I drench them before we go to the van for a few days and keep my fingers crossed that they survive, the only thing that might help is standing them on the top of a bucket filled with water in the shade and hope that they dont get over wet if it rains and rot!!!

Yes at least I got a refund Jasmine but I'd really rather have had the plants. Yes maggy, that's a good idea for the big containers we have at least.

While I was laid in bed last night , I had the idea of next year instead of weeds growing in my alpine sink I might clear it our and grow strawberries ! when would you clear it out and change the soil to plant them?? any suggestions gratefully received.

Good idea maggy if there is drainage in it. I'd wait until after summer and then cut off the scraggy strawberry leaves and plant it up then, that should work out for you. I'd add a bit of BFB or Growmore to the soil to give them a bit of a feed.

Yes Ladygardener, its stone with a big plug hole in the bottom, I will be buying strawberry plants as I haven't grown them for years but at the end of the season I think I will prepare the soil, the alpines that are in the sink just give a poor display they are all matted with weeds now as I have neglected it quite a bit. Thank you for the tips.

Is that the plant with tiny yellow flowers and purple leaves maggy? My neighbour has a bit of it back at my house, it's a bit of a devil to get rid of, they just kind of live with it.
