I have 86 pots including things waiting for planting.
Thank god I do not have a large garden or I would dread to think!

I think that it's having a small garden that means more pots. In a bigger garden you'd have more flexiblity about where to put things. That's my theory anyway!

I had 50 something last time I counted (having said when we moved here that I wouldn't have any pots at all as they were too high maintenance ) - my excuse is that we're hoping to move next year so I am collecting things for new garden.

Hmmmm. At last count (hopefully the final count) there were 135 pots in the living room area, 12 containers in the basement with pond / bog / marginals, on the breezeway there were 4 more containers of planty things. Oh, there's 4 more plants in the flight cage with one of the birds. Good Lord. I AM nuts! C3D

Am going to make OH read this thread so that the next time I say I'm going to buy a pot he can't roll his eyes in that ridiculous fashion and sigh dramatically 'not ANOTHER pot!'. I have done a quick count in my head and only have somewhere in the region of 50. A mere amateur! As I keep pointing out to him - I could have far worse vices! Blod

Not sure what to do with all of my pots when we move Removal companies aren't keen on taking them as they take up too much room in the lorry I think I might have to sell them, contents included and start again once we have moved house. Not sure how much I would charge though - especially for my fig tree

Oh Rita, they should take them if your paying them to. If I was nearer I'd store them for you till you got settled, whats another 40ish when youv'e got Whoops................. nearly let the cat out of the bag then. Have done a count this morning and will annouce later today incase anyone else would like a guess. I'm such a tease I have to confess your guess of 163 Rita has slightly cooled down from being warm. ;D

Busybee - the problem in taking containers is that they can't be stacked on top of one another - so they take up too much floor space in the removal lorry.

Hi Rita ... this suggestion may be off the wall, in which case just dismiss it . But, in order to save at least your favourite plants and pots, why not take the plants out and put them in strong black bags with compost? Then you could stack the pots for transport, and re-pot the plants at the other end (I'm assuming you will be moving straight from house-to-house, and don't have to put stuff in storage). Would that help at all? ... cheers ...

Thanks for the suggestion CC - unfortunately it is quite possible that we could be moving into rented accommodation for a short time before buying another house

We are planning to hire a van for a weekend so that we can take all my pots when we move, Rita - would that not be possible for you?
It might also be worth your asking Goldilocks (don't know if he's registered here, but he's still about on the Beeb somewhere) what he did when he moved recently - I know he took hundreds of plants with him!

Rita, I'd be very happy to babysit some of your container plants for a while, if you'd like. That way you could get into your new home and get sorted and pick them up when you're ready. I'm only a short drive from you. We could sort out getting them here when you get more info about moving etc. It wouldn't matter how long they sat here for so please say if you'd like me too. 4P

Ah thanks 4P that is very kind of you to offer The guy across the road has a trailer so we might ask to use it to move my containers.
