How many pots do you have around your garden? I have far too many I'm sure I have 2 camellias in pots (I don't have acid soil) plus lilies through to herbs. On the last count I had 40 !!!

Only eight. I cut down on pots dramatically when I realised that there was a water shortage, hosepipe bans likely etc. The prospect of watering them all with a can didn't appeal. I thought I'd miss them, but actually that hasn't been a problem.

Not too many, same as Rita, the watering put me off this year, I put a smaller pot in a plastic bag at the bottom of my tumbler toms to act as a reservoir which did seem to help. I have planted up 6 pots of spring bulbs though.

Only about 30 rita but that's not counting the wee ones (too many to count).
I'm lacking in open ground, so all my fruit bushes are in pots, as is a very young christmas tree, holly bush, fuchsia, lilies, leeks, honeysuckle, lemon balm, sage, chillis, peppers, carrots, spring onions etc.
They do need a fair bit of watering though, even up here (although I should be alright for the next few months).
Can never have too many imho.
;D

We've not had a hose pipe ban whilst we have been living here - fortunately I use a gravel mulch on most of my pots though which does help keep in some moisture.

Cut right down now......3 japanese maples, bamboo, fatsia, 3 bananas, Nandina domestica, lemon tree 6 datura and pomegranite.
I used to have a very big collection of bonsai and it took me ages with watering so i sold them all and just have a few tubs now. I will be getting a few more exotics next year....perhaps some cannas and a tall grass from work.

NOT counting the greenhouse, only 4... but two of those are barrels and they dont dry out so badly as the smaller containers, I grow a lot of bulbs in pots though and only put them in the garden when they are due to flower, cos of the s**ding squirrels!

I just had to go out and count, got to 50 and stopped because it seems like showing off! I did include hanging baskets and small pots. My excuse is I have a long house with a long terrace and no earth to plant in next to the house. Now we have two huge tanks to catch rainwater and a water butt and a well but watering does take a very long time in summer! Just as well I like it, and I deadhead and do bug inspections at the same time.

I'm reducing mine as it's such a lot of work bringing them in for the winter and taking them out in spring. I've decided not to have lillies any more as 10 pots involves a lot of time beetle hunting. I'm going to reduce the hosta collection next spring and the two blueberries will be planted out in the garden in big holes full of ericaceous compost. That should all take me down from about 50 to maybe 25 or 30.

Obelixx - I only grown plants that can stay out all winter in my pots. I just did a recount and discovered that I missed a few

Is Beejay still out counting hers? LL x Just got back in from doing my census! I've probably got somewhere in the region of 80 pots not including the pansies waiting to be planted out or some tiidly ferns or the greenhouse, but it does include a few other things waiting to be planted out. I've also got 1 window box, 2 hanging baskets & 2 chimney pots. I'm sure I've cut down because of the hosepipe ban!

Hi Rita - I have very cold winters so it's as much to protect the pots as the plants and the plants in pots do tend to be the more expensive varieties that I don't want to risk in th eground because of frost or slugs - lots of hostas. I do leave the largest outside but make sure their drainange is good to avoid cracking.

I only counted the permanent ones, not stuff waiting to be planted. Daren't count those as I haven't had time to plant the last haul from a plant fair and there's another on Sunday and OH is playing golf so won't be there casting a restraining shadow on me....

I have about 50...well I did last time I counted. That includes an alpine sink and a big stone pot in the front garden. I keep all my ferns and acers in pots...plus loads of herbs, tender perennials etc..I think that it's nice to be able to move them around, especially good for shoving into 'holes' in the border... I've brought most of my tender stuff under cover already....the cannas need digging out...should've put them in a pot too!

Not sure if I dare say how many I have , maybe it would be less embarrassing for me if you all had to guess and i just say who is getting hottest. I like to move things about depending on time of year, when Oriental Lillies are in flower I like them near seating areas so as you can get lost in the perfume and have colour up the path from the living room window etc etc. In Terracota/Ceramic pots and troughs I have things like Roses, Clems, Hydrangeas, Ferns, Lillies, Fuchsias, Hostas, Box, Agapanthus, Camellia, Geraniums, Penstemon, Conifers, Dahlias, Weigelia, Day Lillies, Lavender, Choisya, House Leeks, Misc succulents, Misc Perennials. Can't list anymore and sorry about any bad spelling but brain clogged up with this stinking cold I got from some kind person (OH). And there is a fly in the room which is driving me crazy 23.07one dead fly at last ;D ;D
