Does anyone have a Hot Tub in the Garden? That is one of those tubs 4-6 persons sit in and not a planter filled with red flowers My next door neighbours have had one erected and it looks very inviting and tempting especially in the evening Would appreciate any advice from those who have one It is a toss up between a small greenhouse or a small Hot Tub which I buy myself for Christmas

Go for the greenhouse - you can use it all year, you can grow stuff to eat and it doesn't cost you anything once you've got it ! Wouldn't have wanted to use any outdoor tub last night, no matter how "hot" it was - it was bloomin' frosty here FA x

These have become incredibly popular here in Ireland, but I honestly don't see the point. For one thing, they take up precious planting space - and for another it's normally either to cold or to wet to use one. Like FA, I'd definitely go for the greenhouse ;D ... cheers ...

I truly don't understand this "hot tub" thing - erm, isn't that just an outdoor bath by any other name?? I saw one at GWLive and was amazed at how much they cost! JennyWren, I'm with FA and CC - get a greenhouse! MUCH better use of space, money and time - and much more environmentally friendly.....I don't include you in this but "hot tubs" ALWAYS conjures up an image of unsavoury swinging parties with unpleasant unmentionable stuff floating about amongst the bodies, bleah.........sorry!

I agree with most on here - go for the green house - the biggest you can fit in the garden and/or afford - enjoy!

My neighbours were actually in their Hot Tub last night I saw the steam rising above my fence They dont seem to take up too much room as long as you have a concrete base and of course there are big ones and little ones Still not sure

;D Nothing wrong with a bathing pond I suppose , as long as she uses an environmentally friendly soap. Just to help you think it through further. Think of the electricity bill. You do not want to let the water get too cold. Also think of the work to keep it clean. And where are you going to leave those precious plants that need overwintering?
It might be easier to become really good mates with your neighbour and ask her for a ladies night in her tub.

I have been invited Dutchy but not sure In fact it is a self clean tub and the water stays at a constant temperature - doesnt use too much electricity apparently decisions, decisions, decisions

There was a chap in Dublin going around looking at houses with his daughter last year or so. Looked at one with a hot tub in the garden. Dipped his fingers in it to feel the temperature. Died of legionaires disease five or six days later....

There was also a chap investigating them at a garden centre. He inhaled some droplets from the jets and also died of legionnaires disease. The problem with these tubs is maintaining a water temperature which is comfortable, whilst maintaining a hot enough temperature to prevent legionella breeding.
Do be very careful!!

I haven't joined in this thread because I really don't think I'm qualified - I've never been in a hot-tub or jaccuzi! I'd only have one in the garden if it was out of sight of all the neighbours, and the garden was big enough that it didn't take over or become a major feature. Facing practicalities, a greenhouse is much more useful, but a hot-tub probably more relaxing. Surely what it boils down to is how much you want one Jenny - or whether it's a case of keeping up with the Jones' (no offence meant!)

Very worrying about the legionnairs disease but I was always aware and worried about getting into a Jacuzzi and never thought of the other one My Hot Tub would be a single person hot tub so only me would use it Will keep you posted j w x
