Any tips you can offer will be appreciated, have tried liming the soil but perhaps have not used enough, its ruining all my Brassica crops, and Im starting to lose heart I asked all the right questions before taking on the plot and they said they didnt have a problem with club root ......I guess they lied.

When you plant your brassicas place a 1" piece of rhubarb in the hole with the plant.

Thanks sleepy,Ill try that, but do you know how much lime you are supposed to use per sq metre by any chance? All the books I have.... and they just say to do it, nowhere does it say how much!

I used to use about a handful per square metre - but make sure you use rubber gloves, it's quite caustic.
Don't use lime as well as the rhubarb though. Rhubarb is acidic, whereas lime is alkaline - they will probably neutralise each other.
Also, never use compost and lime at the same time. Spread compost in the autumn and lime in the spring - well, that's what I used to do anyway.

Thanks Sleepy, Club root is a new thing to me, have never had it on any of my gardens before or on the allotments so I have no experience to fall back on, although I knew of it. I supose Ive been lucky up to now

It's soul destroying, as is cucumber mosaic virus - I used to get that a lot, regardless of the precautions I took.
