I'll be in Birmingham at the end of September, is Birmingham Botanic Garden worth a visit?

Hi Dee If you are going to Birmingham Botanical Garden, it will be worth your while to also visit Winterbourne Botanical Garden on Birmingham University Campus. It's only about £2 to go in and they have a lot of unusual plants there. It's on Edgbaston Park Road only a couple of miles from Birmingham Botanical Garden. Hope you have a good trip.

Oooh I've made a note of that - thanks Piggin. The BBG is on my mental list as it can't be that far from me, but of course I've not made it there yet. Do you think it's possible to visit both in a day? And what's access like? I've never driven into Birmingham - the idea terrifies me!!!

I think B'ham is a major hot spot as far as poor traffic is concerned - in and around the city, including the motorway. And there never seems to be any cause for the slow-ups! I want to go on the Wheel too so we are going to have to get there one day, one way or another!!

Hiya Plocket
I'm afraid you're too late for the wheel, they are shipping it out to Australia, the last ride was last night. It was on tv this morning! Yes you can do both in a day. To get to Winterbourne, (I'm assuming you'll use M6) Come off expressway at the end, go through the Queensway tunnels (three of them) this will bring you out on Bristol Road. Go straight on until you reach the signs for Birmingham Uni. Turn right on to Edgbaston Park Road (by RoSPA) and follow that until you see the signs for the botanical garden (Winterbourne). They should be able to direct you from there to Birmingham Botanical Garden which is only a couple of miles away. Both are worth a visit - have a great time!! PG

Oh that's brilliant Piggin - thank you - for the directions I mean! What a shame about the wheel - I thought it was going to be a permanent thing! Ah well - at least I got to go on the London one, in the pouring rain I might add!!! BTW LP thinks your little piggy avatar is cute and wants one!!!

Thanks David!!! Perhaps I should suggest that OH takes me to Oz so I can go on the wheel: we are due another visit one of these days so we can catch up with my Bro, and my Uncle and Aunt!!! Saying that though, Bro is coming here in a couple of weeks and I'll get to see my niece for the first time. She'll be 10 months old. I'm so excited!

For LP i113.photobucket.com/albums/n220/piggingardener/4197.gifHi David - My Dad used to fish the Blythe many years ago. A beautiful stretch by the bridge, and he used to bring back loads of watercress too. That has certainly brought back some happy memories for me as I used to often go with him. There were some very nosey cows in the field that used to come rummaging around to see what we had in our sandwiches!! We lost my Dad in 1981, so you can see I'm going back a fair while. Happy days.............

Hi PG
Thanks for that, the Blythe & Blithfield Reservoir are probably about the same distance from where I live as you are - like you, I have some happy memories of times spent fishing there.
Sorry about the loss of your da, but you still have the memories!
