Went to Calke Abbey today with my sister, the house was closed (Thurs & Fri) but the grounds were superb. The Gardens were simple but absolutely lovely (WelshBlue would like them...lots of orange and purple) the physic gardens made me green with envy as well...and as they're National Trust entry was free (my favourite price)
Forgot my camera <doh>...but thought I'd recommend it anyhow.

Thank you for sharing this, I was thinking of asking if someone had visited.
The Archers messageboarders are planning a Midland meet at Calke Abbey soon, I was thinking of attending - it's only about 25 miles from where I live.
