Went today (Friday, first of 3 day 'weekend') alerted by note on this board, and was reminded how little I know about flower-gardening - I'm more of a "trees and shrubs witha bit of veg" gardener.
Bewildering variety of plants on sale, bought a lot of bulbs and some new foxgloves - they're supposed to flower every year, (rabbits permitting), got Rosefriend her "English Bluebells" and a load for myself too.
I probably saved the price of admission(2x £5) on the plants bought, but came away with the impression that I was a cheapskate compared to many - some were loaded with plants and paraphenalia, and overall I would recommend a visit - particularly if you're in a buying mood since the prices looked pretty keen to me, and variety endless if your into your 'borders'.

Ooh, lovely - I wish I could have gone (too many grandchildren). It's amazing how many people go past loaded with bags of plants at these places, isn't it? I'm afraid I never buy much (apart from when I happen to see the Norfolk Herbs lady...). Glad you had a good day.

I was wondering about having a stall at the next Norfolk Show with my plant partner. Did you know they want nearly £400 for the smallest plot?? Good grief!

Blimey! that's... 133.33 smackers per day before you start... plus petrol and impulse buys while you're there. Mind you, when I did some shows a few years back, (we had mainly topiary and show plants as "advertising", not much to sell) I loaded up with herbs from a Wisbech grower and sold more than enough to cover costs. Maybe if you supplemented your own stuff with easy "certs"?
Ask them what the "gate" per day is - that might give you some clue as to whether there's a realistic prospect of moving into profit, it's all the pedestrian equivalent of "bums on seats"!

It's a lot of money isn't it? I think they drop the fee (a bit) for locals but even so..... I wish I could buy cheap plants from other growers but part of our ethos is that everything we sell is by seed or cuttings, peat free and grown by us. Sometimes I wish we hadn't been quite so high minded but most of the time I think we should stick to our guns. Obviously we need to sow a LOT of seeds to make any money at the Norfolk Show - I think we'll go to the Fairy Fair instead - much nicer idea and more in tune with us. Have you ever been to any of their Fairs? They're great fun and everyone dresses up. I think I'd better go as the witch Grotbag.......

Lovely people, lovely idea: www.fairylandtrust.org I went to the Fair at Narborough Hall last Spring. Brilliant day with elves, fairies, fauns, workshops making all sorts of things, woodland trails, and a beautuful walled kitchen garden to look round. It was full of kids dressed up as fairies, wizards and witches. I would recommend a visit. Hopefully next year we'll be there selling wild flowers and cottage garden plants.

Well, that looks charming, 4P, and I'll watch for details.
