They have a website (www.helmsleywalledgarden.org.uk) but it doesn't have many pictures of the garden itself. You would interested to know that they have a huge collection of Clematis

I don't know whether telling me that is a good thing or a bad thing Dr Bill - about the clematis I mean. Now I'm even more keen to go - clematis AND a walled garden sound like utter bliss. But North Yorks is sooooooooo far away.

Hi All Helmsley is just a half an hour away from me and so I visit it quite regularly. Beautifully restored and I've never seen quite so many clematis in the same place before! SS x

I don't blame you at all Susie!!!!! Actually I've had them all saved on my Photobucket account for a while but don't use them all that often. I opened it up today to give them an airing. There's still some I haven't used though!!!!! If you just copy them off my posts then they are all yours - nothing I can do about it!!!!! Heaven knows when I'll get to use this one!!!!!!!!!

You need to upload them onto a site like photobucket.com/ - open an account first then uploading is easy. You should find a BROUSE button beside an empty box. Click on BROUSE and then search for your smilies on your computer. When you've got it click on it, and then back on photobucket you can then click on UPLOAD (or whatever the huge button below your link says). When you've got all your smilies in photobucket, all you have to do is copy the IMG code underneath the picture, and paste it into your message. To use them regularly you have to keep photobucket open so you can go and select a smiley, click and copy the link and then paste it, but that's easy. I hope this makes sense, but if it doesn't just ask me again and I'll try and be more clear. I've got to dash now though so it will be tomorrow at the earliest if you've got any more questions.

You might be interested in the walled garden in Caunton, near Nottingham (that's in striking distance of Staffordshire isn't it). We find it by accident last week. It was taken over by the present owner about 2 years ago and he is gradually renovating it and building up a nice little nursery. There's a long way to go yet but it will be interesting to watch it develop

Dr Bill
I'm ashamed to say that even though I'm only about 45 minutes from Helmsley I've never visited the Walled Garden. It's now on the list of 'to visit soon'. ;D Hope you had an enjoyable weekend on the Moors, isn't it the most fantastic scenery? I love the journey across the Moors to Whitby, it's really quite beautiful.
Best Wishes GH
