Hi everyone, Very near my house is a 15 year old tree ( what it is, I'll take a picture tomorrow). The problem is, the local feral, scumbag kids are always climbing it. Now that isn't the problem as kids climb trees.... I have to accept that BUT what I can't accept is them jumping up and down on a branch until it snaps off, which they have done to two branches now. I have asked them not to, I have asked their parents to have a word (who think I'm ridiculous). So, I was thinking, is there anything I could paint the tree with to deter these little darlings? And is that legal? I don't want to get angry with them as they are only going to wreck the tree even more to try to get a rise out of me. But I have to say, it hurts me to see this tree being ruined. Am I being over-sensitive? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I don't think you are being over-sensitive, I deplore this sort of mindless vandalism. There are lots of things I could suggest but I think all of them would be illegal

What about under plant it with stinging nettles. Or you could nip out and throw stink bombs at it so everyone could just view it from a distance Is the tree in smelling distance ;D You can get anti drying paint, but I don't know if it would be very good for a living tree, probably wouldn't look nice either.

Stink bombs no, but I like the way you are thinking! It's only 15 yards from my house. You can't really see the trunk in the summer as the branches are low and you have to sort of climb in the tree to climb up it. But that's what I was thinking of too. I'm sure someone will know if it's legal or damaging to the tree....

How about a good heap of stinking manure or really gungy compost around the base, they will soon get fed up.

Big sign - dog loo - big pile of poo - no morons - safe tree. Any good? Dunno what happens afterward though...

Hi Mrskp,
The problem with the police is that if they know they won't get a result (as they won't with minors doing minor stuff) they can't be bothered. Shame really but the kids arn't scared of the police like we were anyway.
Thanks everyone for your replies, Skarloey.

Hi Margi, Is this legal? And where do I get it from? But this is the sort of thing I'd like to do. Thanks, Skarloey.

Thanks everyone for your replies, Skarloey. i think our boys in blue need just as much of a shake up as the little villians. if we don't tell them, how will they know what's going on. sadly the odds are stacked against the law abiding fraternity, but i'd be tempted to report it every time just so the BiB realise you're serious. criminal damage is criminal damage, don't matter what age the offenders are ! off to the tower with them. ;D
