Please can you have a go at ID a plant I bought today! Sadly my camera is rubbish so here's a description - I think it may be a Euphorbia? Tall 2"diameter columns, with tiny smaller leaves up all the ridges, red tinted and with needles all along the ridges too. It's currently about 15" tall with several smaller columns - the lady at the GC said it was a Euphorbia but had no other info - I've googled it but can't find any pictures that match. I realise this is a really inadequate description but do your best! Thanks Mick!

Try Euphobia mammillaris for a start.

I've had a browse and it's more like a Euphorbia grandidens, but the leaves are red tinted on mine. I've got a bad picture now but I can't get it to paste here! Sorry Mick, I'm being a pain!

4pygmies - I've found you at last!
I think it's a cultivar of E. trigona.

HELLOOOO! Aha! I'll look it up - thanks SO much for taking the trouble Mick. I really love my new plant - even OH thinks it's interesting and attractive (sigh...he used to feel that way about me!). I can feel a new obsession coming on - I never realised how many different ones there are. I love those pictures of people's GH's full of their collections on the various sites. I don't suppose I shall ever achieve anything like that but you never know. I'm off now to google E.trigona. Thanks VERY much.

Glad I could help. I'll have to get you all onto the Mesembryanthemaceae next then!

Hello Sweetleaf, it's gorgeous, isn't it? The spines aren't too bad actually. Mine is sitting in my kitchen window though where it can't get any of the kids (not until they do something to annoy me anyway.......).

Hi mickthecactus, just been looking at this on Google and it looks similar to a plant I have. Is mine a Euphorbia. Mine is a bit I broke off a plant we had at work, it was a 2" side shoot and is now about 3' and 3yrs old. The parent plant was so abused, everybody used to water it with left over coffee, it used to be swimming in it and I used to drain it out. It's amazing it ever survived really.
