I leave the leaves to die down and then take them off in spring. It just gives the crowns and younger growth underneath that bit of frost protection

I cut mine down to about 2-3 inches in the fall. I've found that the slugs find in-between the foliage a very convenient and comfortable place to overwinter.

I cut them back in the Autumn too TT. Mainly because I don't like the look of the dead foliage laying all straggly over the borders all winter.

I've cut mine too... To be honest, I did it because I like the view of these cut leaves. I cut them till 12 or 15 cm above the ground level. I like the look of these "punkheads", rooster heads or whatever it may be called in english. And it looks tidy. Chaos in my house, clean in the garden take care

...and does it make any differance, to next years flowers. ? Don't think so barbara, have done both - I like to leave 'em, OH is a cutter - they always put on a good show! But I do worry if they're naked through the frosts... OM
