There was some discussion in another thread about the problems caused by large birds and squirrels taking more than their fair share of food from feeders. I recommended Droll Yankees - I e-mailed Droll Yankees to find out if they have a supplier in Germany www.drollyankees.com/Had a reply today - Schwegler Vogel- & Naturschutzprodukte GmbH Heinkelstraße 35 D-73614 SCHORNDORF GERMANY Tel: Tel: +49-7181-9-77-450 I e-mailed back asking if the supplier had a web site - but haven't had a reply yet.

Hello Rita
Thank you so much for taking the effort and finding out for me. We are going to a fairly large town tomorrow and will have a look around but your link looks very promising.
Thanks once again Rosefriend

Well as we were somewhere today where there were shops a plenty instead of our village where you cannot even buy a nail - I went in search of a bird feeder.
Yes well, good array of plastic things that were a waste of time and then I saw something that looked just right - only thing was the holes were enormous - I would have needed to put walnuts inside so that they didn't fall out...........
I did ask what it was called and no wonder did the women think that I was dotty as on the box it said in massive letters - Bird feeder.
Before she could make things worse (glare was enough) - I said that yes I was aware that it was a Bird Feeder but what type of food went in. Again a glare - OH had moved out of sight by then and I started to enjoy myself.
Sunflower seeds are the best - Ok says I and how do I stop them from falling out of the holes - well the glare changed to a poor dear look until I shoved the thing under her nose and asked again very politely where I could get sunflower seeds the size of walnuts.
I must admit my eyes must have shown that I was near to laughing my head off and she said - Yes Oh dear - yes, yes - mmmmmh - I do see your point - bit useless isn't it......
I asked her after that if she knew if anyone else sold Bird Feeders in the area - No sorry - so Rita it looks as though your address will come in very handy...................

Hi Rita,
Thanks for the websites which I will go into as soon as I have a minute. I am digging my heels in a little as no-one can tell me that a country as big as Germany doesn't have all these types of feeders on sale in shops, or at least readily available somewhere.

Are there any grey squirrels in Germany? I only remember seeing red squirrels when we lived there

No Rita our squirrels are red - if my memory serves me correctly there is a very small area somewhere here in Germany where they do have a population of grey squirrels but I couldn't tell you where though.
I do actually love watching their antics - and they really are acrobats. As we live in the country and just surrounded by woods - well there isn't much in the normal animal life that we don't get - funnily enough the rabbits and the moles always stay on the other side of the road - much to our neighbours digust and our pleasure.
