I have had toothache for nearly 12 hours now and I have got to get through the night - please has anyone got any ideas.
I have Tea Tree Oil, Paracetamol and I am taking a high powered painkiller which is used after operations in Hospital and nothing is working. I daren't take too much more....and I am shaking I am in so much pain....
I cannot get to anywhere until 8am tomorrow so if anyone knows of anything - apart from a hammer on my head - I would be grateful to hear it.
Thanks
Rosefriend

Oh Rosefriend how awful! Toothache is really really nasty. I've never tried this but apparently cloves are good for toothache - I'm not sure exactly what you do with them but I'll do a bit of internet research for you to see what I can come up with. Hang in there - they'll sort you out tomorrow. <hug>

Ok I found this (am still looking for you):
Most traditional uses of garlic to alleviate toothache suggest crushing it (to release the allicin) and placing it inside the mouth, next to the tooth. Sometimes the garlic is used in conjunction with cloves or clove oil.
Remember that crushed garlic is very strong and can cause skin irritation - use with caution.
Garlic might provide some short term relief for the pain of tooth ache, however it should not be seen as an alternative for expert dental treatment. Always consult a qualified medical professional.

Apparently just chewing a couple of cloves, near the painful tooth, will help.
Fingers crossed Rosefriend

Another suggestion I've found is to dab vanilla flavouring (pure or artificial) on the painful tooth, using a cotton bud.

I don't really care though

Only just seen this thread, but suggest you may want to type 'toothache remedies' into Google ... there are an infinity of sites ... I only read the first one, but some sounded worth trying, eg the raw potato, or vanilla essence ...
I wish you well, and a pain free night .

My mother always said that if you rub ice along the side of your thumb and finger of the same side as the sore tooth that helps, have never actually tried it long enough, as a kid, didn't have time for that when there was a football waiting for me. Good luck and I hope it gets better soon.

In similar vein, this link offers an alternative acupressure remedy for toothache... www.beyondfear.org/selfhelp/a_press.asp

I watched 'Castaway' the other night, don't 'spose you have an ice-skate do you?
Seriously though, are you aware you can piggy-back paracetamol and ibuprofen (assuming you can take it) together or space them out 2 hourly?
Hope you get a little relief, toothache is absolutely miserable.

Rosefriend, I know exactly what you are going through. <bighug> A little while back I had exactly the same pain, an inflamed abcess that had me in agony on and off for days until I managed to get an emergency appointment. Luckily I had a little bottle of clove oil which helped, tastes foul, but is quite effective. I even had to keep some cotton wool clamped in my mouth, kept pressing down on it, but I think it bruised my jaw so I won't recommend that. I think resting on a warm hot water bottle helped a bit [but wrap it first in a pillowcase or something.] Bought back some horrible memories seeing your dilemma. I hope you get some rest tonight and a bit of relief from the pain. Take care.

Thanks to you all - I must admit that I had forgotton how utterly awful toothache is - everything hurts.
I know that cloves are always good and guess what - I haven't got any in the house - usually have - when I need them though.....
I am willing to try anything at the moment.

Well I did get through the night (not quite sure how) and I have just been to the dentists - only to be told that she won't be in until later - she has gone to the dentists..............
Sounds about right doesn't it - so I have to go back at 11am (10 UK). As I do not know what she is going to do I daren't take anything to stop the pain now.. roll on 11am.
